Herbert (Herb) Boulden, 86, of Brigantine, Formerly of Brooklawn

Herbert (Herb) George Boulden, 86, of Brigantine, formerly of Brooklawn, passed away on Saturday August 8, 2026. Herbert was born in Camden NJ to the late Herbert and Mary (Duranovitch) Boulden. Herb was a Gloucester High Class of 1958 graduate, where he played football and track & field.

Herbert was an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles. He was formerly a season ticket holder of the Phillies. He enjoyed all sports.

Herb served for six years(1962-1968) with the Armed Forces of the United States of America. Herbert Boulden received an Honorable Discharge from the Army National Guard of New Jersey and from the Reserves of the United States Army.

He was an passionate Gloucester City High School Sports fan, and he enjoyed watching high school football games. For many years he participated in the Independence Blue Cross 10 Mile Broad Street Run.

Herbert was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 19 for 33 years before retiring.

He loved reading newspapers and he enjoyed karaoke. He loved Brooklawn, Gloucester City and his retirement home in Brigantine. Herbert and his wife Rosemarie were snowbirds who traveled to South Florida each winter.

He was a lifelong member of the Gloucester City Mustangs Club and he enjoyed years of traveling with his family.

Hebert is survived by his beloved wife Rosemarie (Rickie) (nee Spadora), his son Scott Herbert Boulden and his wife Deanne (nee Mills) and his daughter Natalie Alessio and her husband Randy Alessio. He is also survived by his brother Joseph Boulden, his grandchildren Francesco and Gianni Alessio and Scott and Samantha Boulden and her fiancé Michael Buonanno, his niece Jennifer Boulden and great nieces Sophia and Cecilia Morquecho.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Life Celebration for Herbert on Thursday August 27, 2026 at the Brigantine Elks Lodge, 400 West Shore Drive, Brigantine. Welcome visitation starts at 11 AM. Service and Words of remembrance will be at 12 Noon followed by military honors, then food and refreshments.

To honor Herb, you are welcome to wear your favorite sports team apparel or Hawaiian shirt.

Federal Court Approves Historic PFAS Settlements

Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Acting Commissioner Ed Potosnak today announced judicial approval of two groundbreaking settlements to remedy long-standing statewide contamination from PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), also known as “forever chemicals,” as well as PFAS and other pollutants originating from four significant industrial sites. The settlements resolve the State’s claims in years-long litigation against E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Co. (now known as EIDP, Inc.) and other DuPont-related entities, and separate litigation against 3M.

The settlement with the DuPont entities, valued at over $2 billion, is on its own the largest environmental settlement ever achieved by a single state. Together, the settlements resolving the claims against the DuPont entities and 3M are valued at approximately $2.5 billion

Parents Charged in Assault of 7-Week-Old Infant

On August 8, 2026, at approximately 6:34 a.m., an officer assigned to the 18th District responded to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) for a report of a prior assault involving a 7-week-old female infant.

The infant had initially been taken to Jefferson Hospital by her parents and was later transferred to CHOP, where medical examinations revealed multiple serious injuries. The parents left the hospital with the infant prior to receiving the results of the medical evaluation.

The parents were later identified as Secret McCleve-Sar, 21, and Tyrone Jones, 22, both of the 2500 block of North Front Street. On August 9, 2026, both were apprehended and charged with Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, Criminal Conspiracy, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Obstructing Justice.

The infant was taken to CHOP, where she is receiving treatment for her injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing with the Special Victims Unit.

FBI Crisis Response Canine Wally Retiring

After a 10-year career, crisis response canine Wally retired from his official duties.

Wally joined the FBI’s Crisis Response Canine Pilot Program in 2015, along with his partner, Gio—who retired in 2025.

As part of the FBI’s Victim Services Division (VSD), crisis response canines “have a special ability to mitigate victims’ stress and anxiety in almost any place at almost any time,” said Sho Sinha, who leads VSD.

Several roadway projects will be underway across Camden County during the week of August 10 to August 14.

“Motorists should plan ahead to take alternate routes and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Also, remember that when you’re traveling through a construction area, please slow down and stay alert for crew members and debris.”

Crews will be working on East Atlantic Avenue on Monday, August 10, to Friday, August 14, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be a partial eastbound road closure between West Merchant Street in Audubon and Station Avenue in Haddon Heights.

Barrington

Crews will be working on Third Avenue on Monday, August 10, to Friday, August 14, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be a full road closure between Kingston Avenue in Barrington and West High Street in Haddon Heights.

Cooper Receives Grant for ALS Clinic

Cooper University Health Care has received a grant of nearly $900,000 over three years through the ALS Association’s Hoffman ALS Clinic Development Award to establish a new multidisciplinary Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Clinic at Cooper. The center will significantly expand access to specialized ALS care for patients across southern New Jersey.

There is evidence that people with ALS live longer and better lives under the care of a multi-disciplinary clinic. Currently, many South Jersey residents living with ALS must travel long distances to receive coordinated, multidisciplinary care, often to northern New Jersey or out of state. These challenges can delay diagnosis and treatment, particularly for patients with Medicaid coverage or limited transportation options.
