Summer Ale Festival Returns to Philadelphia Zoo 

Get Ready for a Roaring Good Time with Seasonal Beverages, Food, Brand-New Music Lineup and Animals!

Philadelphia, PA – After being postponed due to severe weather, Summer Ale Festival returns to Philadelphia Zoo bigger and better than ever on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 6:00-10:00pm (taps close at 9:30pm) with over 100 beers, ciders, seltzers, meads, teas, spirits and non-alcoholic options, which includes 13 new vendors, that will suit any taste. This is the single largest beer event in the Greater Philadelphia Region each summer and this fan-favorite is the only place in the region where you can sip with snow leopards, toast near tigers, and cheers with Andean bears! Performing live this year on the Impala Lawn Stage are Philly-based bands Nik Greeley and the Operators, Echo Kid and Moonroof. This year’s beverage lineup includes newcomers like Ship Bottom Brewery, Good Boy Vodka, Ironbound Cider and NA Beer Club. For tasty bites throughout the night, some of the region’s best local food trucks will be serving up specials to satisfy any appetite. Hours are from 6:00pm to 10:00pm for VIP admission, and 7:00pm to 10:00pm for general admission. All taps will close by 9:30pm. Summer Ale Fest is limited to those 21 or older with valid identification; no children, including infants, permitted.  Tickets are available exclusively through the Zoo’s website and will not be available for purchase at the door. Driver Nearly Strikes Police Officer and Construction Workers

On August 12, 2026, Gloucester Township Police Officers were assigned to a construction work zone on Evesham Road while roadway work was being completed. An officer assigned to the work zone was stationary, closing the roadway when an individual from a nearby business began shouting profanities at the officer and demanding that he leave the area.

A short time later, the same individual entered a vehicle, drove onto the closed roadway, and proceeded recklessly through the active construction zone.

New Jersey American Water Presents $2,350 Grant to Quinton Fire Company

New Jersey American Water presented Quinton Fire Company in Salem County, NJ with a $2,350 grant as part of the company’s 2026 Volunteer Fire and EMS Grant Program, which awarded about $50,000 to 21 volunteer fire and EMS departments across its service areas. The township will use the funding to purchase an MSA Altair 5x Gas Meter Kit, helping first responders detect and monitor hazardous atmospheric conditions during emergency incidents, improving firefighter safety and enhancing the department’s ability to protect the community.

Let’s Work Together to End Drunk Driving!

From August 19 through September 7, 2026, the Lower Township Police Department will be working alongside U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to deter drunk driving and prevent tragedies during the Labor Day holiday weekend. The message is clear: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Labor Day is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, and unfortunately, it also remains one of the deadliest due to impaired driving. During the 2024 Labor Day holiday period (6 p.m. August 30 through 5:59 a.m. September 3), 505 people were killed in traffic crashes nationwide. Of those fatalities, 170 people (34%) died in crashes involving at least one alcoholimpaired driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher.

SBA Opens Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Pennsylvania

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced the opening of a Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Philadelphia County to assist businesses, private nonprofits, and residents affected by severe storms occurring July 11.

Beginning Aug. 10, SBA customer service representatives will be on hand at the Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Philadelphia County to answer questions and assist with the disaster loan application process. Walk-ins are welcome and you can schedule in-person appointments in advance at appointment.sba.gov.

Philadelphia Police Provide Update on Investigation at 417 West Chew Avenue

The Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate evidence recovered from 417 West Chew Avenue in the city’s Olney section.

As part of the investigation, detectives recovered a substantial volume of digital evidence, including hundreds of thousands of images and videos. During their review, investigators discovered recordings of two women who were shown alive and, in later footage, apparently deceased.

CMC SHIELD Task Force Conducts Traffic Safety Detail

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announced the completion of the third enforcement operation conducted under the Cape May County SHIELD Task Force (Safety on Highways through Intensive Enforcement & Law Enforcement Deployment), a countywide initiative focused on reducing dangerous driving behaviors, preventing serious and fatal crashes, and improving roadway safety for residents and visitors.

The SHIELD Task Force was enacted by Prosecutor Sutherland in his capacity as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for Cape May County. Through a formal Prosecutor’s Law Enforcement Directive, Prosecutor Sutherland established the countywide initiative and authorized participating law enforcement officers, while engaged in officially sanctioned SHIELD Task Force operations, to enforce the motor vehicle laws of the State of New Jersey outside of their normal municipal jurisdictions within the geographic boundaries of Cape May County.

Route 44 Bridge REOPENED for Marine Traffic

The Route 44 Bridge over Mantua Creek between West Deptford and Paulsboro, Gloucester County REOPENED Wednesday, August 12 for marine traffic, resuming normal operations. The United States Coast Guard has been notified.

The bridge had been closed on Friday, August 7 because of excessive heat that caused the expansion of some components on the bridge, prohibiting it from opening to allow marine traffic to pass. Route 44/Crown Point Road was not affected and remained open for vehicles.
