Route 130 to be closed for railroad crossing repairs beginning Friday in Gloucester City

Route 130/Crescent Boulevard is scheduled to be closed and detoured in both directions beginning Friday at Klemm Avenue for railroad crossing repairs in Gloucester City, Camden County. Access will be maintained for local traffic.

Beginning at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, August 21 until 7 p.m. Sunday, August 23, Route 130/Crescent Boulevard northbound and southbound will be closed between Klemm Avenue and the Bridge over Newton Creek to replace the railroad crossing and approaches. Access to local businesses will be maintained. The following detours will be in place:

Bishop William Barber Announces National Voter Mobilization Tour

Nationally renowned civil rights leader and Repairers of the Breach President Bishop William J. Barber II today announced a multi-state speaking tour in support of his 100 Days; 1,000 Marches to the Polls voter mobilization initiative organized by Repairers of the Breach and the Moral Monday Public Pulpit.

The tour, announced at a news conference with a diverse coalition of faith leaders and activists, begins this week with events in Kentucky, New Jersey and Georgia where he will give a national sermon at Atlanta’s historic Big Bethel AME Church laying out how low wage and Black voters are the true swing vote in the South and that turning out the vote is the key to the people owning their power. From there, the tour will continue across the South and in battleground states leading up to Election Day, November 3, 2026.

Final Rule for Bluefin Tuna, Atlantic Swordfish, and Northern Albacore Quotas

NOAA Fisheries announces a final rule for North Atlantic swordfish, South Atlantic swordfish, northern albacore tuna, and bluefin tuna annual quotas.

The final rule:

Maintains existing baseline quotas for North Atlantic swordfish, South Atlantic swordfish, and northern albacore tunas
Implements the management procedure for North Atlantic swordfish consistent with recent recommendations adopted by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Increases the baseline annual U.S. bluefin tuna quota from 1,316.14 metric tons (mt) whole weight (ww) to 1,509.98 mt ww, the level adopted by ICCAT for 2026-2028
- Increases the bluefin tuna domestic fishing category quotas according to the established regulatory percentages
- Increases the pelagic longline bycatch set-aside quota from 25 mt ww to 62.5 mt ww
Allocates the pelagic longline bycatch set-aside quota to Individual Bluefin Quota (IBQ) shareholders with IBQ shares designated for the Atlantic region
Updates the analyses of all swordfish and tuna quotas and consider changes to quotas that could occur in future years consistent with the management procedures
Reiterates the existing process for annual quota adjustments based on international quota transfers, underharvests, and/or overharvests.

New Jersey Fire Departments Receive Grant

New Jersey Fire Departments Receive $10,000 Grant Through the State Farm^® Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program

The program, in collaboration with the National Volunteer Fire Council, provided a total of $1.5 million to 150 volunteer fire departments nationwide

Four volunteer fire departments in New Jersey were among 150 nationwide recipients of a $10,000 grant through the State Farm^® Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program. The program, in collaboration with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), helps local fire departments purchase needed equipment to enhance responder safety and better protect their communities.

Eighty-two percent of U.S. fire departments are comprised entirely or mostly of volunteer firefighters. Many of these departments operate on limited budgets that leave them struggling to fund equipment that enables them to more effectively and safely do their jobs. Recognizing this need, State Farm and the NVFC teamed up to provide $1.5 million to local fire departments in 2026. Since the program began in 2024, a total of $4 million has been distributed to support volunteer fire departments with their equipment needs.

Wanted: Suspect for Assault in the 9th District

The Philadelphia Police Department- Central Detective Division is seeking the public’s help in identifying the individual depicted in the following video and stills.

On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at approximately 5:30AM, the victim, a 40 year-old female, was chased by a masked offender in the area of 1500 JFK Blvd. The offender made threatening comments while holding his hand behind his back as they approached causing the complainant to stumble and sustain injury. The offender fled in to SEPTA Suburban Station after the incident.

NJDOT Hosts First Advanced Air Mobility Demonstration

TheNew Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) on August 13 hosted the first Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) demonstration in New Jersey at Atlantic City’s Bader Field. The event showcased how emerging electric and hybrid-electric aircraft can safely integrate into existing transportation systems and strengthen connections between communities and major commercial airports.

The demonstration was part of the Multistate Collaborative eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) National Integration Complex (MSCE NIC)led by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Bureau of Aviation, and includes 21 partner states, including the NJDOT Bureau of Aeronautics. The demonstration was done in conjunction with Electra, the National Aerospace Research and Technology Park in Atlantic City, and hosted by our site sponsors, Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Economic Alliance.

Highland Park Volunteer Fire Co. Ends Ambulance Service; Chief Explains Why

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ –Chief Irvin Brown of the Highland Park Volunteer Fire Company announced that the department will discontinue its backup ambulance service, citing a steady decline in volunteer participation and increasing training demands.

For more than 30 years, the company provided vemergency ambulance coverage to Gloucester City residents. But Brown said the organization can no longer maintain the level of service the community deserves.

“Volunteerism just isn’t what it used to be,” Brown explained. “We’ve reached a point where we don’t have enough trained personnel to safely and reliably operate an ambulance.”

He noted that modern emergency medical training requires significantly more time, certification, and ongoing education than in past decades. With fewer volunteers able to commit to those requirements, the department faced mounting challenges in staffing ambulance calls.

Brown emphasized that the decision was not made lightly. “We’ve always taken pride in helping our community,” he said. “But we can’t continue a service we’re no longer able to support at a professional level.”

The chief’s announcement reflects a nationwide trend: volunteer emergency services are struggling to recruit and retain members, leaving many communities dependent on paid or regional EMS providers.

DNREC Adopts Emergency Deer Hunting Regulations

With the initial discovery of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in Delaware confirmed earlier this year, and the start of deer hunting season less than a month away, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has adopted emergency regulations to try to limit the spread of CWD and confine it to the area where it was found.

The initial identification triggered activation of the state’s CWD plan, with one of the first steps to conduct widespread sampling in the area where the initial cases were found. In July, DNREC worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection (APHIS) Wildlife Services and local landowners to collect and test additional deer to better understand the distribution and prevalence of CWD in the area. APHIS focused cluster sampling of 100 deer adjacent to the two initial CWD findings did not turn up any more cases of the disease.
