Route 42 northbound, I-295 northbound, I-76 eastbound overnight lane and ramp closures this week in Bellmawr

Overnight lane and ramp closures are scheduled on Route 42 northbound, I-295 northbound and I-76 eastbound this week as the Direct Connection project advances in Bellmawr, Camden County. The lane and ramp closures, as well as traffic slowdowns, are necessary to install structural steel. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays when traveling through the work zones.

Route 42 northbound to I-76 westbound Lane Closures

Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Monday, July 6 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, July 7 and again on Tuesday, July 7; Wednesday, July 8; Thursday, July 9 and Saturday, July 11 at the same time, the three left lanes on Route 42 northbound will be closed between Leaf Avenue (mile post 13.8) and where Route 42 northbound splits to I-76 westbound and I-295 northbound (mile post 14.2). Motorists will be directed to take Exit 1B to I-295 northbound/Trenton. Stay left to take Exit 27B to I-76 to I-676 and Route 130/Camden/Philadelphia.

Camden County Roadwork Projects

Several roadway projects will be underway across Camden County during the week of July 6 to July 10.

“Motorists should plan ahead to take alternate routes and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Also, remember that when you’re traveling through a construction area, please slow down and stay alert for crew members and debris.”

· Crews will be working on East Atlantic Avenue on Monday, July 6, to Friday, July 10, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be a partial eastbound road closure between East Merchant Street in Audubon and Station Avenue in Haddon Heights.

· PSE&G will be working on 241 Crystal Lake Avenue on Wednesday, July 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be a full road closure between Prospect Avenue & Hopkins Road.

Assembly Democrats Pass Bill to Address Rental Costs

Legislation would prohibit certain software-driven pricing coordination practices that can contribute to soaring housing costs

(TRENTON) – In an effort to prevent rent-setting software from pricing New Jerseyans out of their homes, the General Assembly today passed Bill A3497, better known as the “Forbidding the Algorithmic Inflation of Rent (FAIR) Act.” Sponsored by Assembly members Yvonne Lopez, Margie Donlon, and Chigozie Onyema, the legislation would restrict the use of rental pricing algorithms and the impact that these algorithms may have on the overall rental market.

Philadelphia Homicide Investigation

At approximately 3:55 PM, July 5, officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 500 block of E. Wyoming Avenue, where they discovered a 27-year-old male victim lying on the highway suffering from gunshot wounds.

Responding officers immediately rushed him to Temple University Hospital.

Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 4:17 PM. The crime scene is currently being held for processing; no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing with the Homicide Division.

FBI Increases Carvajal Murder Reward

Nearly five years after 19-year-old Chrys Carvajal was gunned down in a senseless act of gang violence, the FBI is renewing its call for justice with an increased reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of fugitive Joseph Matos.

Carvajal had recently completed Army National Guard basic training and returned home to Chicago to spend Fourth of July weekend with family and friends. On July 3, 2021, as he walked to his vehicle after attending a party in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the city’s North Side, investigators say he was approached by Matos and Gary Roberson, two alleged members of the Milwaukee Kings street gang, and fatally shot.

Authorities allege the attack was likely committed to enhance the shooters’ standing within the gang.

“Chrys Carvajal had no gang affiliation whatsoever,” said FBI Chicago Supervisory Special Agent Michael Zoufal, who heads the Bureau’s Second City Gang Task Force, which is investigating the case. “He wasn’t known to these individuals. There was no connection. Unfortunately, it was simply a tragic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
