WESTVILLE, NJ (October 1, 2026)(CNBNews)-Mayor Fritz Sims along with Councilman Lawrence recently welcomed owner Osiris Portorreal and his staff of the Dominican Cafe & Restaurant to the community. The Domican Cafe and Restaurant is located at 183 Broadway. 

Sims thanked the owner for establishing his business in the community of Westville. Osiris received a borough welcoming packet from the mayor on behalf of the community. 

Third Legislative District representatiives and Gloucester County Commissioners attended the event.  The mayor encouraged all residents to visit the Domican Cafe and he asked the public to SHOP LOCAL!

First Friday Block Party Series at South Philly’s Electric Alley

Passyunk Square’s illuminated hidden gem alley to transform into an open-air arts celebration with 40+ vendors, live painting and food from Phil Korshak

Philadelphia, PA – One of South Philadelphia’s most electrifying art destinations is throwing a final farewell party for 2026. After a summer bringing the community together, Nice Things Handmade and Percy Street Project announce the last of First Fridays on Percy Street on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on the 1300 block of S. Percy Street in the heart of Passyunk Square. This no charge community event is all ages, family friendly, fido friendly and will bring live music, live painting, 40-plus local vendors, and food to the glowing alley known for its illuminated murals.

Shane Confectionery Unveils Halloween Collection Inspired by Real Ghosts of Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – America’s oldest candy shop asked Philadelphians to share their real ghost stories, and the city answered. Now Shane Confectionery in Old City has turned those paranormal encounters into its limited-edition Haunted Philadelphia Halloween box. Only 125 boxes are being made. Each eerie black-and-silver box holds 14 chocolates and confections, two each of seven pieces inspired by local hauntings and legends, and their flavors stay under wraps until the collection is revealed on October 5. Every box also includes an illustrated zine telling the stories and history behind each haunting, plus a beeswax ghost candle from Philadelphia Bee Co. Pre-orders are open now, with pick-up starting October 5. 

For those that don’t want to commit to the full experience, the individual pieces from the assortment will also be available in Shane’s chocolate case, and can be added to in store custom assortments. This is one of the most anticipated candy drops at Shane Confectionery of the entire year.

Beth Ann McKenna, 62, of Collingswood

On September 16, 2026, after a lengthy illness, of Collingswood, NJ. She was 62 years old.

Beloved daughter of Elaine and the late James T. McKenna. Dear sister of Stacie (John) Fell, Marcelle (Scott) Wight and James (Christina) McKenna, Jr. Devoted aunt to Lauren, Emily, Matthew, Connor, Megan, Alex, Chris, James III, Gavin and Kiersten.

Beth was a kindhearted soul with a wonderful sense of humor who loved to laugh. She will be remembered for her warmth, her intelligence, her curiosity, and the love she had for her family and friends.

Edward G. Elwell, 70, of Gloucester City

Edward G. Elwell, 70, of Gloucester City, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on September 27, 2026.

Born in Camden, New Jersey, on January 2, 1956, to Edward Angelo and Theresa Elwell, Edward was a lifelong resident of the area. He was self-employed for many years as a dedicated exterminator.

A devoted family man above all else, Edward was a passionate fan of football and loved cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. His warmth, humor, and strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Paulsboro Man Pleads Guilty to First-Degree Murder 

Woodbury, NJ – Ramon L. Acevedo, 41, of Paulsboro, pleaded guilty Monday to  first-degree murder, second-degree aggravated assault, and second-degree  possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in a January shooting that left one  dead and one injured, Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns announced. 

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in open court: On January 3, 2026, Paulsboro Police responded to a 911 call on Elizabeth Avenue  reporting an adult female, later identified as Hazel M. Santiago, with a gunshot  wound to the head and a second victim, a minor, who had been shot and fled the  residence. During the call, Acevedo identified himself and stated that he had shot  both victims.

ACES 8TH Grade Class Annual Fundraiser


BROOKLAWN, NJ (CNBNews)This is our 10th year for Stuff a Scarecrow! Let’s make it our best one yet! This is an open house at the Brooklawn Community Center and you can come anytime between the hours of 5pm to 8pm to decorate your scarecrow. If you would like to prepay and take your scarecrow with you to keep at your house then that is an option too! Please click the link below and fill out the Google form so we know you are coming and can be prepared. Please bring whatever you will be dressing your scarecrow in. We do have some clothes and accessories but it’s first come first serve for them. We will have a snack stand and hot dogs available for sale as well. Please come out and support our Alice Costello 8th grade class!
