On March 16, 2026, at approximately 9:14 AM, officers from the Gloucester Township Police Department were conducting proactive traffic enforcement in the area of the Black Horse Pike when an officer observed a vehicle being operated by Tyrie E. Person, who had active warrants for his arrest.
Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Oak Avenue in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township. During the stop, Person was informed that he had active warrants for his arrest. Person became agitated, refused to exit the vehicle, and made threats of violence toward the officers.
Person then abruptly exited the vehicle, assumed a fighting stance, and aggressively attacked the officers. Officers were able to bring Person to the ground; however, Person continued to actively resist for several minutes before being taken into custody.
Two officers sustained minor injuries during the incident and declined medical treatment. Person also sustained minor injuries during the incident and was provided medical treatment.
While in custody, Person continued making numerous threats of violence toward the officers involved.
Person was charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement officers, resisting arrest with violence, terroristic threats, and obstruction. Person was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility.
Arrested: Tyrie E. Person, 46, of the 200 block of Dearborne Avenue, Blackwood, NJ.
All individuals charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. On Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at approximately 21:58 hours, the Gloucester Township Police were dispatched to the area of Old Black Horse Pike and Oak Avenue for a report of a hit and run motor vehicle crash.
On Monday, March 9, at 7:00 p.m., Chief Anthony Minosse will present members of the Gloucester Township Police Department to Mayor David Mayer and Township Council during a ceremonial promotion and swearing-in ceremony. The ceremony will include the promotion of one officer to the rank of sergeant and the swearing-in of two new Gloucester Township police officers.

The ceremony will take place during the regularly scheduled Gloucester Township Municipal Council meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Council Room.
On February 26, 2026 at approximately 12:52pm, Gloucester Township Police Officers were dispatched to Fulton Bank located at 1400 Blackwood Clementon Road on report of a fraud in progress.
Upon arrival bank employees alerted officers to a male attempting to execute a suspicious transaction. The male was detained and was in possession of a fraudulent driver’s license. The investigation revealed the male was impersonating a bank customer, and was attempting to complete a wire transfer in the amount of $87,500 out of the victim’s account. The male was positively identified by officers as David L. Hutton from Houston, TX. The victim’s account did not suffer any monetary loss due to the quick actions by bank employees and officers.
Hutton was placed under arrest and transported to Gloucester Township Police Headquarters for processing. He was charged on a criminal warrant and remanded to Camden County Correctional Facility.
Arrested: David L. Hutton, Age 64, Houston, TX was charged with Exhibiting False Documents (3rd Degree), Forgery (3rd Degree), Assuming False Identity (2nd Degree), Attempted Theft by Deception (2nd Degree).
This incident represents the importance of a strong partnership between the police and community, highlighting the role the residents play in keeping the community safe. Prompt reporting of suspicious activity and potential criminal conduct allows officers to respond quickly and effectively to address community concerns. The teamwork between Officers, Detectives, and community members directly contributed to this arrest.
The Gloucester Township Police reminds all residents that identity theft can happen quickly and without immediate signs. To protect yourself residents can regularly monitor bank and credit statements, never share personal or financial information with unknown individuals, shred sensitive documents, and be cautious of unsolicited calls, emails, or text messages requesting personal information.
