S. May Porter (nee Leathern), on October 22, 2015, of Pitman Manor, formerly of Runnemede and Blackwood. Age 90. Devoted wife of the late Thomas J. Wilk, Jr. and John B. Porter. Beloved mother of Barbara Swope (Robert J. Melone), Tom Wilk (Elizabeth), and John M. Porter (Tina). Loving Grandmother of Danielle MacKay (James), Kathleen Porter, Maria Wilk, John C. Porter, Eric M. Porter, and Julia Wilk. Great-grandmother of Riley and Mason MacKay. Sister of Charles Leathern (Letty), Helen Miller, Joan Powell, the late Lester Leathern and William Leathern. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

May was a member of the Runnemede Senior Citizens Club and a former parishioner and choir member at St. Maria Goretti Church.

There will be a viewing from 8:30am to 10:15am Tuesday morning at Gardner Funeral Home, RUNNEMEDE. Funeral Mass 11am at Holy Child Parish, St. Maria Goretti Church, 321 Orchard Ave, Runnemede. Interment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in May’s name to the United Methodist Homes Fellowship Fund, care of Pitman Manor, 535 N. Oak Ave, Pitman 08071.

New Jersey Files Lawsuit Against EPA

TRENTON – The Christie Administration today announced the state of New Jersey has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit challenging the Environmental Protection Agency\’s Clean Power Plan on the basis of its unlawful extension of the federal agency\’s authority, irreparable harm to the state if it can\’t manage its own energy future, and its unequal burden on states, like New Jersey, that have already significantly reduced carbon emissions.

Trapped in a NY Nazi Enclave, Couple Claims

CENTRAL ISLIP, New York (CN) – A Long Island suburb that was once a hotbed for German-American Nazi \"\"sympathizers still flies a Hitler Youth flag above its clubhouse and fights to keep the neighborhood all white, a federal lawsuit claims.

Long Island Housing Services jumped in to represent homeowners Philip Kneer and Patricia Flynn-Kneer in a federal housing discrimination lawsuit filed Monday against the German-American Settlement League.

The Kneers say they\’ve been trying to sell their home in the Nazi-founded suburb of Siegfried Park in Yaphank, Long Island, for the past six years, but can\’t because of the group\’s strict rules designed to keep the neighborhood German.

Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge check station to host waterfowl blind drawings for state blinds

 

PRIME HOOK, Del. (Oct. 23, 2015) – Although Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge will not be hosting waterfowl hunting this year due to an ongoing wetland restoration project, hunters will still be able to hunt from state blinds on the adjoining state-owned Prime Hook Wildlife Area and, like last year, participate in blind drawings at the federal refuge’s check station, DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife announced today.

New Giant Tortoise Species Found in Galapagos; Discovery named in honor of longtime park ranger

Newswise — A research team working in the Galapagos Archipelago has discovered there are two species of giant \"\"tortoises — not just one, as had been long believed — living on the island of Santa Cruz in the center of the Galapagos Archipelago.

The discovery of the new species, (see photo) detailed in a study reported today (Oct. 21) in the journal \”PLOS ONE,\” is likely to help focus attention on the newly named Eastern Santa Cruz Tortoise (Chelonoidis donfaustoi), said Dr. James Gibbs, a team member and conservation biologist at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York. Gibbs’ work on this discovery and others has been done in collaboration with the Galapagos National Park Service, Yale University and the Galapagos Conservancy.
