Small Business Owners Beware: Not Reporting Income Paid to Vendors Can Be Costly

Friday, August 21, 2015

Most individuals receive an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1099, Miscellaneous Income, early each calendar year as part of their annual tax return documentation. They normally hold the document for their tax return preparation and then file it away without thinking about it. Small business owners, too, must send 1099s to non-employees paid in the course of doing business. The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) warns that many small business owners do not understand the requirements for issuing 1099s, and they can receive hefty fines and costly IRS audits if not complied with properly.

Get Ready to Respond, Get Vaccinated

BY Capt. Tim Davis, M.D., Chief Medical Officer

National Disaster Medical System

I love vaccines. I’ll just admit that up front. As an emergency responder, a military member, a doctor, and a dad, I’ve seen the value of vaccines. There are plenty of things to worry about in a disaster, including any number of vaccine-preventable diseases disaster responders can be exposed to while doing our jobs. The same is true for doctors and other healthcare providers. And dads, too, for that matter! Getting sick doesn’t have to be one of them.

$750K bail stays for Glassboro Man Charged with Assault-Attempted Murder

press release

WOODBURY NJ– Facing aggravated assault and attempted murder charges in what was described as a brutal beating that left his wife on life support for 2 1/2 weeks, Byron Jenkins (7/30/69), of Glassboro NJ, was unsuccessful today (8/21) in a request for reduction of his $750,000 bail.

Jenkins’ lawyer told Superior Court Judge M. Christine Allen-Jackson he filed a \”time-in\” bail reduction request because his client had been jailed since the 6/13/15 incident and the machine operator’s financial ability to post bail had worsened because of his incarceration. He also wanted to learn when Jenkins case would be presented to a grand jury.
