Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell announced today $169 million in Affordable Care Act funding to 266 new health center sites in 46 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico for the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services in communities that need them most. These new health center sites are projected to increase access to health care services for over 1.2 million patients. These awards build on the $101 million awarded to 164 new health center sites in May 2015.

A new analysis of data from the 2012 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) has found that most American adults have experienced some level of pain, from brief to more lasting pain, and from relatively minor to more severe pain. The analysis helps to unravel the complexities of a Nation in pain. It found that an estimated 25.3 million adults (11.2 percent) had pain every day for the preceding 3 months. Nearly 40 million adults (17.6 percent) experience severe levels of pain. Those with severe pain are also likely to have worse health status. The analysis was funded by the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and was published in The Journal of Pain.

(New York, N.Y. – August 11, 2015) Officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today marked the completion of a water line extension that will provide a safe source of drinking water to 73 homes and businesses threatened by contaminated groundwater from the Combe Fill South Landfill Superfund site in Chester and Washington Townships in N.J. As a result, those homes and local businesses will no longer need treatment systems. EPA Superfund Director Walter Mugdan and Chester Township Mayor Bill Cogger marked the milestone with a toast of clean drinking water. 

\”This water line will permanently supply clean drinking water to homes and businesses that had previously gotten their water from groundwater threatened by the landfill contamination,\” said EPA Region 2 Superfund Director Walter Mugdan. \”The completion of the water line is the culmination of a partnership between the EPA, Chester and Washington Townships and the Washington Township Municipal Utilities Authority.\” 

\”I need to be crystal clear on this, the water coming from the pump on 8^th Avenue was most certainly not sewage,\” Fox said. \”The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Ocean County both tested the water and found it safe. The public’s health and safety is always our first concern.\”

PEKIN, ILLINOIS–Deputy Sheriff Craig Whisenand was killed in a single vehicle crash while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Armington at approximately 10:30 pm.

Dispatchers lost contact with him prior to his arrival to the call. Another deputy located the accident scene just before midnight at the intersection of Springfield Road and Tomm Road, in Delavan. Deputy Whisenand was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy Whisenand had served with the Tazewell County Sheriff\’s Office for 15 years.
