ALAMEDA, Calif. – The U.S. Coast Guard seized a self-propelled semi-submersible vessel carrying more than 16,000 pounds of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific Ocean July 18.
The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Stratton from Alameda apprehended four suspected smugglers and seized 275 bales of cocaine worth more than $181 million wholesale from the self-propelled semi-submersible. A U.S. Navy maritime patrol aircraft detected the 40-foot semi-submersible vessel more than 200-miles south of Mexico.

New Jersey’s leaders, residents, and law enforcement officers can be proud that their pro-active approach to fighting crime is paying off. Since the last time we reported on New Jersey, violent crime dropped from 4.45 to 2.85 incidents per 1,000 residents, and property crime fell from 26.81 to 18.81 incidents per 1,000 citizens.
To put that into perspective, the national violent crime rate is 3.67 incidents per 1,000 citizens and the property crime rate is 27.30 incidents per 1,000 people. This means New Jersey’s crime rate is approximately 30 percent less than the typical state in the U.S.
What’s even more impressive is that we found 50 Garden State communities where the average crime rate is 78 percent less than it is across the country. In fact, the average violent crime rate of the safest cities in New Jersey is .32 incidents per 1,000 people, and the average property crime rate is 6.57 per 1,000 people.

CAMDEN, N.J. – A former employee of The Vacation Ownership Group LLC of Pleasantville, New Jersey, was sentenced today to 30 months in prison for conspiring to defraud owners of timeshare properties by offering phony consulting services, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Joseph Saxon, 42, of Brigantine, New Jersey, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Noel L. Hillman to a superseding information charging him with one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. Judge Hillman imposed the sentence today in Camden federal court.
