CAMDEN (May 5, 2015) – Men\’s soccer senior midfielder Joe Auleta (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) was named the Athlete of the Year, baseball coach Dennis Barth captured the Edward C. Cialella Coach of the Year Award and senior women\’s soccer midfielder Laura Rathof (National Park, NJ/Gateway Regional) won the Wilbur W. Wilson Scholar-Athlete Award to highlight the annual Rutgers University-Camden Athletic Awards Banquet here Tuesday night.
 
Junior lacrosse attack Krystal Valianti (Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) was honored with the William P. Carty Memorial Award as the Most Courageous Athlete.
 
The school also recognized athletes honored as the Most Valuable Players and Most Dedicated Players in 19 sports, as well as 38 Senior Award winners. The Senior Awards are given to student-athletes who have either exhausted their eligibility in a particular sport or are graduating.
 
Rutgers-Camden also recognized the school\’s championship golf team, which won its fifth North Eastern Athletic Conference title in seven years and will compete in the NCAA Division III Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina May 12-15.

TRENTON NJ May 8, 2015 (CNBNews.net)–New Jersey Health Commissioner Mary O\’Dowd announced today more than $6.3 million in grants for scientific research to develop treatments and cures for disabilities associated with traumatic brain injury. These grant awards are approved by the New Jersey Commission on Brain Injury Research.

In New Jersey, approximately 175,000 New Jersey residents suffer from traumatic injuries that damage the brain, and 12,000 new injuries occur each year that require inpatient or outpatient treatment. The economic consequences of physical disabilities due to traumatic brain injury are enormous.

 LOCAL RESTAURANT/DINER UPDATE— May 2015 was suppose to be the month the groundbreaking ceremony for Ott’s on the Waterfront restaurant was going to be held. From what we have heard mayor and council are still in negotiations with the principal investors, Donald Bigley and Jeffrey Lucas. The parties met earlier this month and are expected to meet again sometime this week. Since the project was announced in 2012 the city has said the sticking point continues to be the developer’s financing. However, in March, a source told us, off the record, that Bigley and Lucas do not want to lease the land from the city. Instead, they want to buy it, but the city is asking too much money. 

WOODBURY NJ May 8,2015– Daron Trent (DOB 10/17/84), of Hamilton NJ, described as a known gang member and the accused murder of a 25-year-old Paulsboro man, today was denied in his request to be released from jail and placed on home electronic detention while undergoing surgery and rehabilitation.

Trent’s lawyer, Frank Trosky, did not specify the nature of Trent’s \”substantial medical condition,\” but said Gloucester County’s top correctional official agreed his treatment could not be addressed with Trent in jail. Therefore, Trosky said he was asking for a modification in his client’s $750,000 bail.

CAMDEN, N.J. – A member of a criminal street gang that used threats, intimidation and violence to maintain control of the illegal drug trade in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was sentenced today to 240 months in prison on drug conspiracy and weapons charges, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
