CNBNews Cheers and Jeers for February 2015

by William E. Cleary Sr.

CNBNews.net

CHEER-To all the Crossing Guards throughout the area who stand in the cold, snow, sleet and rain on a daily basis to make sure our children get to school safely every day.

JEER—What can be done to those employees of the Central Jersey Waste and Recycling Co., who leave broken glass and trash in the street instead of picking it up? Doesn’t the contract \"Imgres\"they have with the City of Gloucester include picking up trash and bottles that fall out of a trash bag? If it doesn’t it should. Please gentlemen the citizens of Gloucester would appreciate you taking the extra few minutes to pick up that broken glass, trash papers etc. We pay you to take the trash out of our city not leave it laying in the streets of our neighborhoods.

CHEER—In September 2014, Army Reservist Sgt. Justin Rebura (below with Thermoseal officials) was nearing the end of his nine-month deployment to Afghanistan with the 808th Engineer Company when he discovered that his position at his Houston, Texas employer had been filled in his absence. Rebura began remotely exploring his employment options with the support of the Forward Operating Base’s USO. The Sergeant was connected with Thermoseal Industries LLC, a Gloucester City, NJ manufacturing company. As a result, Thermoseal offered Rebura a management position, paid his relocation expenses and helped ease his transition by subsidizing a rental apartment while the Reservist arranged to move his family to New Jersey. Thermoseal received the \”Above and Beyond Award\” in recognition of extraordinary support of their employees who serve in the Guard.

Iditarod show goes on despite lack of snow

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – If there is one day when mushers in the Iditarod sled dog race don\’t have to worry about trail conditions, it should be Saturday during the ceremonial start. A lack of snow south of the Alaska Range created treacherous trail conditions, forcing race officials to move the competitive start of the race… Continue reading “Iditarod show goes on despite lack of snow”

Delaware Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Blotter:February 23 through March 1

Reminder for the week: Crabbers reminded to prepare crab pots for new season

DOVER (March 6, 2015) – To achieve public compliance through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources and ensure safe boating and public safety, DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Natural Resources Police officers between Feb. 23-March 1 made 706 contacts with anglers, hunters, boaters and the general public, including one vessel boarding for boating safety and fishing regulation compliance checks. Agents responded to 42 complaints and issued 11 citations. This week, with an expanded Fish & Wildlife Enforcement presence continuing to be deployed as a deterrent, no citations were issued at the C&D Canal Conservation Area and associated recreational trail.

An incident of particular note was:

· On Feb. 24, Fish & Wildlife Enforcement officers issued criminal summonses to Norman C. Kennedy Jr., 60, of Millsboro, and Daniel J. Hardy, 49, of Georgetown, for one count each of loitering to engage in sexual conduct in a public place at Massey’s Landing boat ramp. Both pled guilty in Justice of the Peace Court 3 in Georgetown and were fined $107 each.

Citations issued by offense type included the following, with the number of charges in parentheses:

Wildlife Conservation: Trespassing after hours on a state wildlife area (9), Kent and Sussex counties.

Public Safety: Loitering to engage in sexual conduct in a public place (2), Sussex County.

Are you AWARE?

DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Section reminds recreational crabbers to repair crab pots and replace or refresh required markings before putting crab pots in the water for the season. Recreational crab pots must be marked with the owner’s full name and permanent mailing address, either on the required white buoy or on a waterproof tag attached to the buoy.

Crabbers also should check the condition of the required turtle by-catch reduction device, a rigid metal or plastic frame measuring 1.75 inches by 4.75 inches that is attached at the funnel entrance of all recreational crab pots to reduce the possibility of diamondback terrapins entering the pot and drowning. By-catch reduction devices are available at local tackle shops or may be handmade of heavy wire. Directions to make or install a by-catch reduction device are available online at Turtle Excluder.

For more information on crabbing in Delaware, click on 2015 Delaware Fishing Guide. The guide also is available in printed form at DNREC’s Dover licensing desk in the Richardson & Robbins Building, 89 Kings Highway, Dover, and from license agents throughout the state.

The DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife recognizes and thanks the majority of anglers, hunters and boaters who comply with and support Delaware’s fishing, hunting and boating laws and regulations. Citizens are encouraged to report fish and wildlife and boating violations to the Delaware Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Section by calling 302-739-4580. Wildlife violations may also be reported anonymously to Operation Game Theft by calling 800-292-3030 or online at www.dnrec.delaware.gov/fw/Hunting/Pages/OpGameTheft.aspx.
