The State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP) is a strategic and cost-effective mechanism to preserve the state\’s wildlife resources for the future. Recovery of species that have reached threatened or endangered status is typically more costly than preventative actions that keep species populations from reaching such declines. Proactive management actions identified in the SWAP are intended to keep species from becoming federally (and state) threatened and endangered.

Following an investigation by the Major Crimes Unit of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, Calderon, a restaurant worker from Guatemala, was arrested by GCPO officers in Woodbury. He is being held in default of $800,000 bail.

On February 9, 2015, (nee Irvin) of Gloucester City, NJ, age 70. She is the beloved wife of Robert Schlueter, loving mother of William Irvin (Linda), Michael Irvin (Andrea) and Robert H. Schlueter and dear sister of Annie Ramsbottom, Theresa Dickinson (late John), and Irene Allison. She is also survived by her dear grandchildren Michael Irvin, Samantha Hammers and William Irvin, Jr. and great grandchild Carley Hammers. Relatives and friends are invited to meet Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the ETHERINGTON-CRERAN FUNERAL HOME, 700 POWELL ST., GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ. Helen’s Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers her family has suggested memorial donation be made to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Rd., Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 or the NJSPCA, 1119 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick, NJ 08901. 

Apply for DNREC Watershed Assessment’s 
rain barrel-painting contest now through March 6

DOVER DELAWARE (Feb. 13, 2015) – DNREC’s Watershed Assessment and Management Section is now accepting applications from Delaware artists to participate in a rain barrel painting contest aimed at educating the state on the benefits of using rain barrels to reduce rainwater runoff and improve water quality. Artists selected will be invited to paint creative designs on rain barrels that will be prominently displayed in the public eye.

George Richard Ridinger, \”Coach Dick\”, 93, of West Deptford, NJ passed this life, on February 12, 2015 peacefully at his home, with his wife and Granddaughter, Amanda, at his bed side . Dick was born on June 23, 1922 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to Howard and Amy Shieds Ridinger along with 4 brothers and 2 sisters, with surviving siblings Phil Ridinger and Peggy Paris. He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 68 years, Tommie, his 2 sons, and wives: Jim \”JR with Loren and Tom with Susan, and 4 grandchildren who he adored: Amanda, Amber, Andy and Alex and a great grandson Ayden. 

TAXPAYERS FOR COMMON SENSE: Volume XX No.7: February 13, 2015

Repeatedly we warned lawmakers to not be fooled by the farm bill apologists’ absurd claims that passing the nearly $1 trillion 2014 farm bill would sow the seeds for reducing the deficit. Recent reports by government agencies confirm the legislation, just like the last two, is on pace to be a budget buster. But saying, \”told you so,\” isn’t enough. It’s time for Congress to stop using fuzzy math and fake offsets to hide the true cost of agricultural program spending.

Generally the legislation is \”scored\” by a nonpartisan arm of Congress, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). When scoring, CBO looks at current law and market conditions to establish a 10-year baseline then estimates any spending or revenue changes resulting from a proposed bill. In this tight budgetary environment, bills that increase future deficits against the baseline have to find offsets, bills that don’t or even reduce projected deficits get the green light. According to CBO’s analysis of the farm bill as introduced in January 2014, the bill came out at $956 billion—$16.6 billion less than the cost of extending the current law. Proponents patted themselves on the back for this bipartisan deficit reduction success!

WOODBURY NJ –Gilbert J. Jones (DOB 12/21/79), of Clayton, was found guilty today (2/12) of simple assault in an incident where he was accused of repeatedly punching the face of a woman he’d just met at a Glassboro apartment party on 9/11/11, breaking her jaw before he left the gathering.
