Statement From Governor Chris Christie On The Passing Of James Gandolfini

For Immediate Release/June 19, 2013

Trenton, NJ – Governor Chris Christie released the following statement tonight on the tragic passing of New Jersey native James Gandolfini:

\”It’s an awful shock. James Gandolfini was a fine actor, a Rutgers alum and a true Jersey guy. I was a huge fan of his and the character he played so authentically, Tony Soprano. I have gotten to know Jimmy and many of the other actors in the Sopranos cast and I can say that each of them are an individual New Jersey treasure. Mary Pat and I express our deepest sympathies to Mr. Gandolfini’s wife and children, and our prayers are with them at this terrible time.\”

Obama offends Catholics in the UK, says religious schools are divisive – BizPac Review

The Catholic media is up in arms over comments President Obama made during a \"Outraged\" speech while in Northern Ireland for the G8 summit. Obama made what is described as \”an alarming call for an end to Catholic education,\” in spite of the fact that it is considered \”a critical component of the Church.\”

In front of an audience of about 2,000 young people, including many Catholics, Obama claimed that Catholic education divides people and blocks peace, according to the Scottish Catholic Observer.

\”If towns remain divided—if Catholics have their schools and buildings and Protestants have theirs, if we can’t see ourselves in one another and fear or resentment are allowed to harden—that too encourages division and discourages cooperation,\” Obama said.

Catholic World News noted:

Ironically, President Obama made his comments just as Archbishop Gerhard Müller, the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, told a crowd in Scotland that religious education upholds the dignity of the human person. Archbishop Müller said that Catholic schools should promote \”all that is good in the philosophies of societies and human culture.\”

OMAHA, Neb. — In the three days since winning the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, UCLA sophomore David Berg has proven — twice — he is incredibly worthy of the honor.

Berg, a right-handed submariner, shut down NC State’s comeback bid in the last two innings en route to the Bruins’ 2-1 victory in the College World Series on Tuesday — two days after tossing a scoreless inning of relief in a 2-1 win against LSU.
