Shelby Post 82 blanks Brooklawn Legion 4-0

Note: The game was originally scheduled for the Brooklawn field but was moved to Campbell\’s Field in Camden City, NJ

CAMDEN CITY NJ – The Shelby Post 82 players weren’t intimidated with the Ben Franklin Bridge rising up above the center field wall.

All they were concerned with was the Brooklawn, NJ, team they were facing Wednesday afternoon and they took care of business with a 4-0 triumph.

Shelby’s win came against a program that has reached the American Legion World Series 10 times since 1990, including the last two seasons. But Shelby pitchers Phillip Black and Ethan Carpenter combined to limit Brooklawn to two hits in the win.

Four runs in the second inning proved all that Post 82 would need. Jackson Mims delivered a bases-loaded single for the first run, then Cody Fitch followed with a two-run single. A throwing error on the play allowed Mims to dash all the way around with the fourth run for Shelby.

Post 82 would bang out 13 hits on the day but leave a ton of runners aboard the rest of the way.

Shelby (9-3) was to play at Spring City, Pa., later on Wednesday.

WILDWOOD CONSIDERING A BAN ON BAGGY PANTS-

WILDWOOD NJ (June 11,2013)The city is set to pass a law Wednesday regulating how people dress on its boardwalk. It bans going shirtless, as well as walking on the boardwalk with bare feet.

But he provision that has gained widespread attention is a prohibition on pants that sag more than 3 inches below the hips, exposing either skin or underwear. Mayor Troiano said Wildwood has been inundated with complaints from tourists upon whose money the popular beach town depends for its survival.

\”When you have good families who call you up and say, \’I\’ve been coming here 20 years, 30 years, 40 years and I\’m not going to any longer because I\’m not going to subject my children or my parents or grandparents to seeing some kid walk down the boardwalk with their butt hanging out,\’ you have to do something,\” he said. \”I\’m not one of the Fruit of the Loom underwear inspectors; I\’m not one of the grapes. I don\’t want to see it.\”

Neither does Frank Krueger, of Gloucester City, N.J., who has been coming to Wildwood with his wife, Denise, for decades. Together, they had spent about $80 on pizza and games of chance in two hours of strolling the boards.

\”You want a family atmosphere here,\” he said. \”You don\’t want to see someone walking around with their butt crack hanging out. On the beach is one thing, but not here on the boardwalk.\”

\”It\’s disgusting,\” his wife added. \”I don\’t want to see someone\’s bare butt. It just looks terrible. They walk around with their legs spread, and their crotch is down around their knees.\”

Pennsylvania girl\’s double-lung transplant a success, family says | Fox News

Published June 12, 2013Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA – A 10-year-old Pennsylvania girl whose efforts to qualify for an organ donation spurred public debate over how organs are allocated has had a successful double-lung transplant.

Sarah Murnaghan suffers from severe cystic fibrosis. A family spokeswoman says Sarah received new lungs from an adult donor at Children\’s Hospital of Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Her family says it\’s \”thrilled\” to share the good news.

During double-lung transplants, surgeons must open up the patient\’s chest. Complications can include rejection of the new lungs and infection.

Sarah\’s family and the family of another cystic fibrosis patient at the hospital challenged transplant policy that made children under 12 wait for pediatric lungs to become available. They said pediatric lungs are rarely donated.

Sarah\’s health was deteriorating when a judge intervened in her case last week, giving her a chance at the much larger list of organs from adult donors.
