CHEERS–To all firefighters, be they volunteer or paid, and to all police officers for risking $\"Images-12\"$ their lives to protect you and I on a daily basis.

CHEERS–NJ Senate Bill 2368, introduced earlier this year by Senator Michael J. Doherty, and Senator Stephen M. Sweeney, would prevent shore municipalities that accept federal or state aid to replenish their beaches damaged by storms from collecting beach fees, imposed through the sale of beach tags or otherwise. Further, municipalities accepting governmental beach replenishment aid for storm-damaged beaches would be required to provide free public toilet facilities during the summer tourism period, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. New Jersey is the only state with beach fees. Contact your state legislator and tell them to support Senate Bill 2368.

Bloodstream infections cut by more than 40 percent in study of over 74,000 patients

Using germ-killing soap and ointment on all intensive-care unit (ICU) patients can reduce bloodstream infections by up to 44 percent and significantly reduce the presence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in ICUs. A new Department of Health and Human Services-funded study released today tested three MRSA prevention strategies and found that using germ-killing soap and ointment on all ICU patients was more effective than other strategies.

CARY, N.C. – A 4-0 loss to Grand Valley State proved that Tampa could be beaten, and rather handily at that.

The defeat evidently got the Spartans’ attention.

They walloped Minnesota State-Mankato 8-2 in Saturday’s Division II Baseball Championship finale, and that was a day after trouncing the Lakers of GVSU 10-1 in Friday’s rematch to make it into the title game.

Beloved husband of Sharon (nee Stag) of 33 years. Devoted father of Sharon Welsh and David Pluck, III. Loving grandfather of Brittany and Kayla Welsh. Beloved son of David Pluck, Sr. and the late Ruth (nee O’Neill). Dear brother of Ruthann Morris, Mary Curcio, James, Joseph and Charles Pluck. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pluck was a member of the Riders of the Lamb (GCCC).

There will be a viewing from 9 to 11am Monday morning at Gloucester County Community Church, 359 Chapel Heights Rd., Sewell, NJ 08080.

VIDEO: Rolling Thunder Ride to the Wall \’13

It’s hard to imagine just what hundreds of thousands of motorcycles look like gathered together until you’ve been to the Rolling Thunder. Rolling Thunder is an annual \”Ride to the Wall\” on Memorial Day weekend from the Pentagon over the bridge into Washington DC, where it makes a circuit of the mall area, and ends near the Jefferson Memorial. In 1988 the ride drew 2,500, but today as I look around the Pentagon North Parking Lot early on Sunday morning, I am surrounded by an estimated half a million riders.

The announcement was made today at the top of the Manayunk Wall at Lyceum and Manayunk avenues.

Eight riders will be charging up the wall in this Sunday\’s bike race for more than a chance at victory. They\’ll race to remind others of the sacrifice made by Philadelphia firefighters Robert Neary, Daniel Sweeney and Michael Goodwin, who all died in the line of duty.

CCAGW: THE IRS NEEDS TO MAKE DRASTIC CHANGES

Washington, D.C.) – The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) today called on the Internal Revenue Service to revise the agency’s training manual to include longstanding principles and laws of the United States. While the report released this morning by the Treasury inspector general for tax administration on the use of inappropriate criteria to review applications of nonprofit organizations recommended that employees undergo training before election cycles, waiting until 2014 and only training select employees is insufficient to resolve the IRS’ problems.

Game Commission issues reminder that a new permit and license year begins soon.

A Pittsburgh man has been fined $1,100 after he presented a wildlife conservation officer with a phony shooting-range permit he could have bought legitimately for $30.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission views the case as a timely reminder for those who take target practice at ranges on state game lands, where most participants who do not possess valid hunting or furtaker licenses must hold permits to use the range.
