Malkin: Firearms Industry Breaking With Liberal States | GOPUSA

\"AmericanAmerican writer and blogger Michelle Malkin. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Here\’s the latest example of head-splitting cognitive dissonance in Washington: President Obama used his State of the Union address to crusade for a revitalized U.S. manufacturing sector. But while he pays lip service to supporting businesses that build their products on American soil, Obama and his left-wing operatives are hell-bent on driving a key sector of the U.S. manufacturing industry six feet under: the American firearms and ammunition industry.

The White House is pushing new government spending to \”spur economic growth,\” protect manufacturing plants and \”create good-paying jobs\” to help America\’s middle class. Yet across the country, with aggressive lobbying by the White House itself, Democrats are working to destroy tens of thousands of good-paying jobs and the firms that created them. Assault rhetoric has lasting real-world consequences.

In New York, Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo imposed radical, ineffectual gun-grabbing measures that are backfiring in more ways than one. Nearly half a dozen gun companies have now announced that they will no longer sell their products to police in the Empire State. In protest of Cuomo\’s gun-control regime banning citizens from owning semi-automatic rifles or shotguns because of cosmetic features deemed \”military-style,\” Washington-based Olympic Arms \”will no longer be doing business with the State of New York or any governmental entity or employee of such governmental entity within the State of New York.\”

South Jersey\’s \’Johnny Hockey\’ making waves on ice

A MAKESHIFT SIGN on an 8 1/2-by-11-inch computer printout greets you on the far right door of Hollydell Ice Arena in Sewell, N.J. It reads:

WELCOME TO THE HOME OF \’JOHNNY HOCKEY\’

A certain buzz now surrounds this rink, where locals of all ages have laced up the skates since 1992. Everyone knows South Jersey\’s own John Gaudreau, the 19-year-old Boston College standout who starred in the recent world junior hockey championships.

Now, the kids walk around in their USA hockey jerseys. They all want to grow up to be like Gaudreau. Flyers forward Danny Briere, whose 14-year-old son Caelan plays at the rink, recently stopped by and told Gaudreau\’s father, Guy, to pass along his congratulations.

Gaudreau, from Carneys Point, N.J., seemingly wins everywhere he plays. When the U.S. team topped Sweden, 3-1, on Jan. 5 in Ufa, Russia, Gaudreau became the first player to win a Clark Cup in the United States Hockey League, an NCAA championship and a gold medal at the world juniors. His tournament-leading seven goals in seven games, highlighted by a hat trick in the quarterfinal win over the Czech Republic, have only increased the notoriety of the humble, budding star.

Gaudreau went on to play at Gloucester Catholic High, which his father coaches, until his senior year, when his talent took him to Iowa. Playing for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL, the premier prep league, he was coached by Jim Montgomery, who played parts of two seasons with the Flyers in the mid-\’90s. Gaudreau earned rookie of the year honors en route to the first of his recent trio of titles.

Catholic League: Maher and SNL Get Dirty

February 19, 2013

Bill Donohue comments on Friday night’s \”Real Time\” show with Bill Maher, and the \”Saturday Night Live\” episode that aired the next night:

It was quite a weekend for the haters. Speaking of Pope Benedict XVI, Maher said, \”Benedict told them he was going to resign because the Church needs a fresh young face. Somewhere other than a priest’s lap.\” He then mocked the Church’s teachings, imploring Catholics to quit. He ended his rant by condemning Catholicism for being \”hostile towards women,\” comparing the Church to the Taliban.
