HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Virginia (February 24, 2013) – Freshman shortstop Joe Sigismondi (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) doubled home senior pinch-runner Nicco Esgro (Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) in the bottom of the eighth inning, moments after SUNY-New Paltz had tied the game, to give the Rutgers University-Camden baseball team a 4-3 victory here Sunday at the Ty Cobb Classic.

The Scarlet Raptors raised their record to 2-1 at the three-day season-opening event, which was held at Hampden-Sydney College.

HADDON HEIGHTS, N.J. (CBS) — Authorities say at least two people were injured in a fire that started after an apparent explosion at an apartment home in Camden County, New Jersey.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. at a three-story house along the 100 block of White Horse Pike in Haddon Heights.

Witnesses who live nearby say they heard a loud explosion and that the subsequent fire destroyed the home in a matter of minutes.

\”Everyone came running out all of the buildings, looking for smoke to see what was going on,\” said resident Jeff Taylor. \”We all ran over and we saw the smoke, debris everywhere out front. It was clearly like a big bomb. The front half of the house was already collapsed before it even went up in flames.\”

Two people were hospitalized. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

Congress and the President are trying to blame each other for looming across-the-board spending cuts known as sequestration. Dueling press releases claim it’s well nigh to a budget apocalypse and that everything from air travel to military readiness will be ruined. Our response to Congress and the President: The chickens have come home to roost. You can stop sequestration, but that requires you to do your job.

Some major—err, General—Chicken Littles are singing about sequestration in the Pentagon. The Joint Chiefs of Staff came to Capitol Hill last week with tales of woe, claiming the cuts will hollow out the force, reduce training, and delay deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman. We are reminded that when the carrier’s namesake President was told \”Give ‘em hell, Harry.\” He replied \”I don’t give them hell, I just tell the truth and they think it’s hell.\”

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Virginia (February 22, 2013) – The Dennis Barth era is underway at Rutgers University-Camden.

The Scarlet Raptors’ new head coach collected his first collegiate victory in his first game when Rutgers-Camden scored five unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat host Hampden-Sydney College, 9-4, at the Ty Cobb Classic here Friday. The Raptors’ season-opening win was called after eight innings due to darkness.
