Russ Hoffman Sr., WW II Army Vet, GHS Alumnus Class of \’44, Member of Ray Ford Old Timers

Russell E. Hoffman, Sr., age 86, died on February 17, 2013 at his home in West Deptford where \"CCP022170-1_20130222\" he lived since 1956. Russell was born and raised in Gloucester City, NJ. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School in 1944 where he played football. Russell served in the US Army during World War II from 1944-1946. Upon returning from the war, Russ played football for the Mustangs, a semi pro football team. He worked for RCA, retiring after 30 years in 1986. Russell was a member of the Gloucester City \”Ray Ford\” Old Timers. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and enjoying all their activities.

He was predeceased by his son Russell E., Jr. \”Rusty\”, his brother Clarence Jr. and his wife Emma (nee Keller). He is survived by his wife of 65 years Tresa (nee Keller), daughter Debbie (Jeff) Lyons, granddaughters Stacey Lyons (Rob Garish), Michele Lyons and Marci Lyons, great granddaughters Kylee and Brianna, nieces Donna (Ron) Henefer, Nancy (Greg) Forchic, Janet (Al) Kaczorowski, Diane Newcomb, Edie (Chal) Asman, great nieces and nephews Nancy Lynn Henefer, Ron (Lorraine) Henefer, Tom (Siobhan) Henefer, Dennis (Lori) Forchic, Darrin (Becky) Forchic, Derek (Erin) Forchic and many more great great nieces and nephews.

Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Budd Funeral Home, Woodbury, NJ. Memories may be shared at www.buddfuneralhome.com.

Haddon Heights: Permanent Radar Signs

HADDON HEIGHTS NJ-You may notice several new permanent radar signs in town. The objective is similar to speed humps, to deter speeders. They hopefully will be activated soon, we are waiting for the PSE&G hook-up.

 

We took great care in placement of these devices because the cost is high and we only had three locations we could select. The guidelines were established in 2011 and finalized in the 2012 budget process.

 

Police considered:

• High traffic areas, related to both vehicular and pedestrian movements

• Locations where speeding is a known issue

• Major roads with cut through traffic

• We did not want to place additional signage in a school zone(s)

• We did not want these signs near residences, some home owners do object.

Therefore, Stanfill Towers and the Devon Avenue sports complex were selected. You may notice Devon Avenue is in one direction. This direction was selected because: the complex is most active in the evening, and the majority of the flow in the evenings is southerly, due to motorists trying to circumvent 42 on the way home. VATICAN SLAMS MEDIA FOR TRYING TO INFLUENCE PAPAL VOTE | (CNA/EWTN News

Vatican City, Feb 23, 2013 / 08:00 am (CNA/EWTN News).- As the conclave to elect a new Pope

approaches, the media has ramped up its speculation about why the Pope is resigning, causing the Secretariat of State to warn about \”completely false and unverifiable\” news stories aimed at swaying public opinion to influence the vote.

 

\”It is deplorable that as we draw closer to the time of the beginning of the Conclave … that there is a widespread distribution of often unverified, unverifiable or completely false news stories, that cause serious damage to persons and institutions,\” the Feb. 23 statement from the Secretariat of State said.

Italian newspapers and the international press have been filled in recent days with theories about both the reasons Pope Benedict XVI is stepping down and about how he will spend his last days.
