Women’s Basketball Wins Tipoff Tournament with Aplomb

(November 17, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team won its second-straight season-opening tournament as the Ducks walked all over Bay Path College in an 83-39 win. Four players were in double figures for Stevens and the Ducks out-rebounded the Wildcats 60-37.

RESULTS OF 2012 ELK HUNT ANNOUNCED

 

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Game Commission officials today announced that 52 elk were harvested by the 65 hunters awarded elk licenses for the recently concluded 2012 elk hunt, which was held Nov. 5-10. Of that total, 18 were antlered and 34 were antlerless. 


The heaviest antlered elk was taken by Richard Tratthen, Jr., of Scott Township, Lackawanna County. He took a 840-pound (estimated live weight), 8×8 on Nov. 7, in Jay Township, Elk County.

60 percent of America’s biggest cities are now smoke-free

 

 

Comprehensive smoke-free laws cover 30 of 50 largest U.S. cities, up from just one in 2000

 

Thirty of America’s 50 largest cities are now covered by laws that prohibit smoking in all indoor areas of private workplaces, restaurants, and bars, according to a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. By late 2000, only one of the 50 largest U.S. cities—San Jose, Calif.—was covered by such a law. As of Oct. 5, 2012, 16 of the 50 largest cities were covered by local comprehensive smoke-free laws, and 14 more were covered by state comprehensive smoke-free laws.
