Brooklawn/Rams Coach Barth headed to Rutgers-Camden?

There are rumors swirling that Dennis Barth is set to take over as head coach of the Rutgers-Camden baseball program.

While he has interviewed for the position, Barth confirmed this afternoon that he has not heard back from the university and anything being put out there is speculation at this point.

\”I haven’t heard anything back from them,\” Barth said in a phone interview from West Lawn, Pa., where his Brooklawn Red team is competing in the Senior American Legion Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.

\”I don’t know if I would take it. I don’t know the salary, nothing. A couple of kids who played for me told me about it. We’ll see what happens. If there’s a pension, health insurance I might have to take a look at it. Right now it’s all rumors.\”

Brooklawn Post 72 stays unbeaten in MidAtlantic Regional

Brooklawn Red scored four runs in the top of the second inning Friday night and got a solid pitching performance from Casey Brown en route to a 7-3 victory over New Castle, Del., in a Senior American Legion Mid-Atlantic Regional winner’s bracket game in West Lawn, Pa.

The Brookers (52-3) held a 7-0 lead before the Delaware team pushed across its first run in the bottom of the sixth.

Brooklawn was originally scheduled to play at 4 p.m. but had its start time pushed back nearly four hours due to inclement weather. The game didn’t end until after midnight and was slated for seven innings instead of nine.

Brown struck out seven and scattered three hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. Mike Shawaryn and Jeff Paglione each pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Brooklawn will face either Columbia, Md., or New Jersey state runner-up Flemington in a winner’s bracket game tonight at 7 p.m.

West Lawn out of Mid-Atlantic | reading eagle.com

AUGUST 11, 2012

Flemington, the New Jersey runner-up, scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to top West Lawn 6-5 and force the Owls into the elimination bracket. Pennsylvania runner-up Spring City delivered the knockout with a 17-1 victory Friday night at Owls Field.

\”We played our hearts out in that first game,\” West Lawn coach Zack Williams said. \”The kids gave us everything they could. Some things didn\’t go our way, and we didn\’t finish it.

\”But the kids who played for us made me proud to be their coach.\”

The Owls (11-16) had a berth in Mid-Atlantics as host. The positive, of course, was a fresh start after going a combined 0-4 in the Berks County and Region 2 American Legion tournaments. The team didn\’t qualify for states.

The difficult part? The competition – seven of the top teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and West Virginia – is fierce.

Even so, West Lawn was six outs away from ending its postseason losing streak. The Owls led Flemington 5-2 after Zach Post hit a two-run single in the top of the eighth.

But Flemington scored four in the final two innings. Pat Roberts hit a one-out single to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
