Former Hawk Debbie Black will be inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame on November 8.

July 19, 2012

PHILADELPHIA – Former Saint Joseph\’s women\’s basketball standout Debbie Black has been named one of 16 inductees into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2012, organization officials announced Thursday afternoon.

Arguably the top all-around female athlete in the history of Saint Joseph\’s University, Debbie Black helped to lead the Hawks to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in the 1980s. Black was enshrined in the Saint Joseph\’s Women\’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 1994, the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Saint Joseph\’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000.

A scrappy fireplug on the hardwood, Black led the Hawks to the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 1985, and the second round of the tournament in 1986, 1987 and 1988. SJU finished as runner-up at the Atlantic 10 Tournament in 1987 and 1988.

O\’s Campaign Spokeswoman Smears Romney\’s Supporters as RACIST

\"6a00d8341bf7d953ef01156f3a3a4c970c-120wi\"Even though a black man has been elected to the White House, white people are still being called Racist! Do you know of any other ethnic group that has used the race card as long as African Americans? When is enough, enough? What is it that black people want white people to do?

How many decades will this cry of racism from a small group of African Americans be heard?

We have politicians that are black serving in every position of the government. Many too are holding high positions in the corporate world. Many too own small businesses. Likewise, they have done well in the world of professional sports.

I think I speak for all when I say, the silent majority are tired of hearing your whining.

What are your thoughts on this subject? After you listen to this woman\’s bluster take a moment and share how you feel about this topic.

The headline here isn’t that an Obama campaign official is accusing Romney of *yawn* dog-whistle politics, it\’s that an Obama campaign official is openly and publicly accusing Romney supporters of racism.

Sen. Lucas can hide behind the word \”fringe\” all she wants, but the context of the situation tells us that by \”fringe\” she means a huge swath of Romney supporters in Virginia.

What prompted this divisive racial ugliness from the State Senator was her reaction to comments made by Governor Romney a few weeks prior about how Obama\’s lack of experience in the private sector makes him ill-suited to fix the economy — something, by the way, I believed before Obama was elected and am absolutely certain of now.

So in reference to perfectly reasonable and logical criticism of Romney\’s, the Obama campaign official said the following:

What I am saying to you is Mitt Romney, he’s speaking to a segment of the population, who does not like to see people other than a White man in the White House or any other elected position.

Let’s be really clear about it… let’s be real clear Mitt Romney is speaking to a group of people out there who don’t like folks like Barack Obama in any elected or leadership position. We know what’s going on here and some people may be afraid to say it but I am not. I am not afraid to say it.

He’s speaking to that fringe out there who do not want to see anybody other than a white person in a leadership position. Senator Miller said it before she died and I agreed with her. They don’t want President Barack Obama in office as President and for all the reasons that you and I and a lot of other people understand.

West Windsor-Plainsboro blanked by Brooklawn Red in American Legion state tournament | NJ.com

WEST WINDSOR — Brooklawn Post No. 72 Red lived up to its reputation in yesterday’s opening game of the District 3 American Legion 19-and-under baseball tournament.

West Windsor-Plainsboro will get another chance to show what it has tomorrow. West Windsor-Plainsboro lost 6-0 at Mercer County Park to last year’s World Series entry. Although out-hitting the club from Camden County, the locals were shut down by fundamentals and heads-up baseball.

The 25-time state champions came up with key defensive plays and timely offense to advance to tomorrow’s winner’s bracket game. It will face Brooklawn Post 72 Blue at 4 p.m. WW-P will face South Amboy, which lost to Brooklawn Blue 17-7, on an adjoining field, also at 4 p.m.

In the double-elimination format, the Mercer County club’s season will end with one more loss.

\”They’ll be fine,\” manager Don Hutchinson said. \”They’re not ready for the season to end, and they know now their back’s to the wall. I think they’ll be set to go. We won’t be the first one out.\”

\”We have to forget about this game,\” said Joe Jensen, a WW-P North grad who will enter his sophomore year at Hamilton College in Upstate, N.Y. \”(Brooklawn Red) is one of the better teams, so we’re not gonna face anyone better out here.\”

Brooklawn, which has competed 61 years in American Legion ball, last won the World Series in 2001. Comprised primarily of kids who play or have played for Gloucester Catholic, it returned 15 from last year’s roster.
