Two Cherry Hill Firemen Injured Fighting Condo Fire

At just before noon on Sunday, July 31, 2011, Cherry Hill Firefighters and EMTS were dispatched to a reported condominium fire on Meerbrook Court in the Woods II development off Evesham Road.

$\"\"$ Dispatchers advised incoming units they were receiving several calls reporting a working fire. As first arriving firefighters arrived (within 5 minutes of their dispatch), they reported a fast moving fire in the rear of the end units, on the first floor. The fire was spreading rapidly to the second floor and adjacent units. Crews met with residents evacuating the eight-unit building and all occupants were accounted for and outside the fire building.

Fire crews initiated an aggressive interior attack with hand lines on the first floor, extinguished the fire on the first floor and proceeded to the second floor. Firefighters continued that effort until it was clear to the incident commander that the fire had advanced across the second floor units and attic space, well in front of the interior crews, reaching the other end of the eight unit building.

(11/P95) TRENTON: Two young campers suffered minor injuries early this morning after $\"Drainco-9\"$ being attacked by a yearling black bear that entered their campsite in Stokes State Forest in northern Sussex County.

The injured campers, an 11-year-old Brooklyn boy and a 12-year-old Jersey City boy, were part of a larger camping group that were lodged in several tents in the Gren Anderson section of Stokes State Forest when the young bear entered their campground sometime after 5 a.m.

One child was scratched on the shoulder and the other child has a puncture wound on his foot. As a precaution, both children have been taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Don’t believe the public-sector unions when they say that worker pensions are $\"21_3-sm2\"$ modest.

Recent polls show that public opinion is turning against government workers because of their rich pay and benefits—especially pension benefits. A spring poll conducted by the Los Angeles Times and the University of Southern California, to take one example, found that 70 percent of Californians favored a cap on public employees’ pensions because of the widespread perception that pension costs have become a crushing burden to state and local governments (see \”The Compensation Monster Devouring Cities\”). Faced with this declining support, unions have counterattacked by claiming that government pensions are actually quite modest. They argue, for instance, that the average annual pension of a state worker is under $30,000 in California and even less in New Jersey and New York. But their figures are misleading: the real size of pensions for those retiring now on full benefits is much larger.

Crack Down On Non Payment Of Child Support

Camden County Sheriff Charles H. Billingham said that last week members of the Sheriff’s Office participated in a three day, statewide Child Support Warrant Sweep.

Sheriff’s Officers apprehended 78 persons wanted on Superior Court Bench for non-payment of child support, and served 105 warrants.

The outstanding warrants totaled $1.85 million, Billingham said.
