GHS COACH FAHY RESIGNS-Gloucester City High School head baseball coach
Kevin Fahy is stepping down after six seasons at the helm. Fahy wants to spend more time with his family. His wife gave birth to a baby boy in May. The couple also have a three -year- old daughter.
Fahy was an assistant with the Lions for three years before taking over the reins, and also assisted at his alma mater, Gloucester Catholic. He didn’t rule out the possibility of reappearing down the road as an assistant, but seemed to be sure that his days as a head coach are over.
Fahy told Gloucester County Times reporter Scott Chappelear, \”I can’t envision myself being a head coach again,\” said Fahy. \”You never know what the future holds, and maybe if I could come back and help somebody out I would do that. I’m glad it was something I was able to experience, but it’s a safe bet I won’t be a head coach again.\”
Coach Fahy compiled a record of 80-61 over the six years. This year was his best, with 15 wins and 7 losses and a No. 4 seed in the Group I playoffs.
Fahy will remain the boys basketball JV coach.

Eugene \”Jeep\” MacAdams dropped out of Woodbury High School in 1941, just a month shy of graduating, to join the Army National Guard and help support his mother, Lydia, who was getting by on just $78 subsistence a month for her five dependent children and herself. The National Park family had struggled mightily after the death of Charles MacAdams, husband and father, when Jeep was just 10.
Seventy years later, Jeep, 88, who now resides in Ocean View, is officially a Woodbury High School graduate. Continuing its practice of granting belated diplomas that started about 10 years ago, the Woodbury Board of Education presented one to MacAdams at its recent regular meeting at the Evergreen School.
\”I was no dummy, but I was never bothered about not having the diploma, figuring I didn’t need it,\” Jeep says. \”None of my brothers (Charles, Joe, Edwin and Horace) graduated either. But with so many family members there for me, it was a proud moment.\”
Among the 20-some family attendees were Jeep’s children, Jeanne MacAdams of Swedesboro, Ken and Tommy, both of Brooklawn, and Scott of West Deptford, one of the prime organizers.
\”It was a much bigger deal than he expected,\” Scott says. \”Everything went very nice.\”
JERRY SMITH APPOINTED HEAD BASEBALL COACH AT NEW JERSEY CITY
JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Accomplished high school coach JEREMIAH \’JERRY\’ SMITH, JR. has been selected as the 11th head baseball coach in the 65-year history of the New Jersey City Universitybaseball program for the 2012 season.
Smith, 33, makes the jump to the college level after seven successful seasons at JFK Memorial High School in Iselin, NJ, where he posted a 120-70 record (.632) from 2005-11, culminating in capturing the 2009 New Jersey Group III state championship and the North II, Group II state sectional crown. The 2009 Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) and 2008 Home News Tribune Coach of the Year, he guided the Mustangs to GMC division titles in 2008 and 2009.
\”We are excited about the hiring of Jeremiah Smith,\” said assistant athletic director Ken Heaton, himself the winningest coach in program history with 255 wins. \”Coach Smith came highly recommended by some of the top collegiate coaches in our region. He has great communication skills and a great work ethic. These two traits will help in his relentless recruitment efforts. The athletic department is looking forward to much success under the leadership of Coach Smith.\”

The Vietnam-era law requires the president to seek approval from Congress after 60 days of military engagement. The law was passed in 1973 after the United States fought the Korean and Vietnam wars without actual declarations of war. But it’s always been controversial. (President Nixon actually vetoed the law, but Congress overrode him.)
The Camden County Department of Public Safety has worked hard to secure grant funding to benefit the residents of Camden County. Each grant they receive allows them to acquire needed safety equipment and training without negatively impacting the county budget.

This $44,000 grant will provide training for Camden County first responders, (Police, Fire and EMS) in hazmat response, awareness, and decontamination.

The National Fire Protection Association released it\’s on-duty death report at its annual conference in Boston today, and 2010 saw another decline in fatalities.
Seventy-two firefighters were killed while on duty, the lowest total tracked by the NFPA since it began conducting its annual study since 1977.
The total is ten less than the number of on-duty deaths in 2009 and is a considerable decline from the 105 tallied in 2008.
The average number of deaths annually over the past 10 years is 95.
\”We are very pleased to see that the number of on-duty firefighter deaths is at an historic low and continues to decline each year,\” NFPA President James Shannon said in a statement.
\”We strongly believe that the advances in training, equipment and fire codes are a major factor in reducing the deaths of these brave men and women that make up the ranks of volunteer and career firefighters.\”
