Letters: Regarding Reorganization Meetings of Municipalities

Every January, most municipalities hold their \”reorganization meetings.\” Today, I looked at the \"6a00d8341bf7d953ef0115709f053f970c-800wi\" minutes of several municipal governing bodies to learn whether or not they set aside a portion of their 2010 reorganization meetings for citizen comments. Interestingly, I found that a significant minority (approximately 20%) of the small sample of bodies I checked did NOT have a public portion set aside even though one is required by law.

I urge readers to see if their municipal governing bodies set aside a portion of their 2010 Reorganization Meeting for citizen comment. Most municipalities have Internet sites and list them athttp://www.nj.gov/nj/govinfo/county/localgov.html . And, many of those that have Internet sites post their agendas and minutes on-line.

Letters: Resident Upset with City Solicitor\’s Behavior


When I asked about the ambulance service I was told by Mayor James that the city was looking into it. I then proceeded to ask cost involved with it and I understand why the city could not discuss the question. However in response to the question the mayor said the city had spoken to a few companies. I proceeded to ask then what companies have the city spoken to. In my view and in the opinion of a few mayors and council members in other municipalities in this state that question was a fair question.

 

The response I got from the city attorney was shocking and in my view totally unacceptable and unprofessional. I was hollered and screamed at that \”It was none of my business\” and that I have no right to ask questions. I was appalled by this response. 

 

Any resident of New Jersey has a right to question their government on any issue pursuant to N.J.S.A. 10:4-12. We live in a democracy not a communist state. Every day Americans in our military are risking their lives and giving their lives to protect that right. No resident should ever be treated the way I was treated last night. I do not expect to hear an apology from Mayor James or City Solicitor John Kearney but I feel that it is important for the people of our city to know what is going on and how their government servants, people who are paid with their tax dollars are acting.

Suddenly, On November 17, 2010. (nee McGlinchey) Age 53. Of San Antonio, Texas. Formerly \"Davila. of Gloucester City. Beloved Daughter of the late Joseph J. McGlinchey and Katherine V. (nee Brennan). Loving Wife of Antonio S. \”Tony\” Davila. Cherished mother of Anthony M. Davila and U.S. Army SPC. Eric D. Davila, who served two tours in Iraq. Loving Sister of Kathy Lombardo, Marge Fowler, Jimmy McGlinchey, Thomas C. McGlinchey, Joanne Rodgers, Michael McGlinchey and Franny McGlinchey. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Marianne was a graduate of Gloucester City High School Class of 1975.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her viewing on Monday morning from 9 am to 11 am at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth Street, (at Brown Street) Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 am at Saint Mary’s R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City. Cremation is private. Inurnment with her parents in New Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr. There is no evening viewing.
