Video: Work Has Begun on the Proprietor\’s Park/Freedom Pier Walkway

Work has begun on the Proprietors Park/Freedom Pier Walkway in Gloucester City, New Jersey. Located on the Delaware River, Proprietors Park can be access via King Street.

Presently construction crews are expanding the riverwalk. The plans call for extending the present riverwalk from the Park around the Coast Guard pier to Monmouth Street. The plans include new lighting, iron fencing, teak benches, and trash receptacles. Completion date in November 2010 pending weather conditions. Cost for the Freedom Pier Walkway is $387,391. The low bidder was Bud Concrete of Sewell. Funding is provided by a NJ Green Acres Matching Grant.

This will be followed by three additional phases of construction which will include the repair of the bulkhead sheathing on the Coast Guard pier, new transit boat dock and a 5200 square foot restaurant with a completion date of 2012.

Mayor James said in the press release announcing the plans, \”Myself along with Council will stay committed to improving our valuable waterfront. This project will be the catalyst for future economic development in our King Street business district. \”

Alex Wypyszinski had just dropped off his wife at work and had a few hours to kill one morning last April.

Wypyszinski says he likes to spend his free time in the morning snapping photos of wildlife in the park.

Of course, he usually has to search the animals out.

It all started when he was driving in the Fountain Flats area, located between the Madison Junction and Old Faithful, when he heard an unusual sound.

But Wypyszinski says any noise is unusual on that particular highway at 7am.

\”I thought it was a horse and carriage,\” said Wypyszinski. \”That was the kind of noise that I heard.\”

By the time he turned around, the two fuzzy brown images were racing quickly toward him.

Wypyszinski pulled out his camera quickly, thinking he was going to catch two moose racing down the highway.

A SEASON OF PROMISE FOR PENNSYLVANIA BLACK BEAR HUNTERS

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania bear hunters will be able to enjoy a full-week of archery bear season (Nov. 15-19), followed by a Saturday opener of the three-day firearms bear season, which will run Nov. 20, and the following Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 22 and 23, according to Carl G. Roe, Pennsylvania Game Commission executive director.

Letters: City of Gloucester City Says \”Thank You\” to Cleanup Volunteers



The Mayor, City Council and the Public Works Department would like to thank all the \"071307_2158_GloucesterC1_1\" people who participated in our semi-annual Clean-Up Day October 23 in Gloucester City. More than 375 people from 30 different groups picked up 250 bags of trash, tires, clothing and concrete, etc. from Market Street, Collins Avenue, Broadway, the High School, Martin’s Lake, Miller’s Pond, the railroad tracks, parks, playgrounds and the ball fields. These individuals and groups worked hard and should be commended for their volunteerism and community spirit.

The number of groups and individuals are too numerous to mention, and their dedication to this community is appreciated. As a highlight, we would like to thank the First Presbyterian Church for the use of their facility.


We would also like to thank the various city departments, committees, and employees who participated in this event. Gloucester City continues to move forward and we say thank you for another job well done.

Letters: LACK OF BELLMAWR LEADERSHIP

As a resident and citizen for 20 years, I observed first-hand at a recent Borough \"6a00d8341bf7d953ef011571942740970b-120wi\" Council meeting the apparent lack of leadership in Bellmawr. I received a flyer in the mail from another Bellmawr citizen listing concerns about the speed limits not being observed on both Creek and Browning roads.

As a father of three children, I thought it was a good idea to attend the meeting to see what may come out of the meeting. Well, I was mistaken and displeased at what I observed and heard at the Council meeting I attended on October 21. I was disappointed in the Mayor and Council’s performance.

At a certain point, I had to ask a question since I was displeased at what I was hearing. I asked what other measures Council was looking at. For instance, are you looking at reallocating resources within the Police Department to patrol peak times of traffic on Creek road? The Bellmawr Police Captain addressed the issue and, in my opinion, offered no solutions. I then asked Mayor Frank Filipek if has he petitioned any other state agency to assist with patrols? He asks me, who do I petition?

It’s his job to find a way. To find a practical solution to this unsafe condition that continues. I was not elected to run the town, he was!
