American Legion Baseball wrapped up its 84th season with its World Series in Spokane, Wash., at Avista Stadium, Aug. 13-17, with eight regional tournament champion teams. After 15 games that kept fans on the edges of their seats, Midwest City, Okla., \”Outlaws\” Post 170 claimed the World Series title while Eden Prairie, Minn., finished runner-up. Even though the Outlaws took home the winning trophy, many players from the eight teams were winners for their baseball prowess.

After the conclusion of the World Series, players\’ statistics from both regionals and the World Series were tallied in order to recognize the leaders in categories such as hits, home runs, strikeouts and more. Additionally, the statistics unveiled the All-Tournament Team. The following information features the 2010 Legion World Series award recipients.

Brooklawn to Hold 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony

The Brooklawn American Legion Post #72 in conjunction with the Council, the Clergy, \"9-11-01\" \"9-11\" \"9-11\" and the emergency personnel in Brooklawn will be conducting a 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday, September 11 at 2 p.m. at the Brooklawn United Methodist Church located at Maude and Hannevig Avenue.

The commemoration ceremony will honor the victims of the attack on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, airline flight takeover and the American Military service personnel who have died in the battle against terrorism while other members of the service continue to fight.

Commander Mick Ward and the members of The Brooklawn Memorial Post #72 invites the families of those who have a member of their family serving on active duty, no matter where they are stationed, as they are part of America’s war on terrorism, all family members of the emergency personnel, and the readers of this paper to come and participate in this ceremony.

Sea Isle school settles with family for $120,000 over racism in Christmas-play casting

SEA ISLE CITY — A black family who complained city school officials kept a \"Ladyjustice\" child out of a Christmas play received $120,000 in settlement money Friday. Anecqua Joyce’s family claimed in a 2004 federal lawsuit that school officials excluded Anecqua, then 9, from a 2003 holiday program because she was black. Doretha Waters-Rice, her son Glendon Durham and Anecqua sued the city’s school district and its police department over the incident. The city’s insurance fund paid Anecqua and her family $550,000 in July to settle their claims that police violated the family’s civil rights when they wrongly arrested Waters-Rice, Anecqua’s grandmother, after she complained about the child’s exclusion. The most recent settlement, approved Friday by a U.S. District Court judge, involves the family’s claims against school officials. Music teacher Gail Rodger testified in federal court that she left Anecqua out of the Christmas play because Rodger had her confused with another black child whom she thought was a Jehovah’s Witness, court records show.
