Tuesday’s photo was taken at Southport, Charles and Water Streets, which was a former industrial park housing such factories as GAF, New Jersey Zinc, later Gulf and Western, Harshaw Chemical, later Amspec Chemical, Atlantic Richfield, to mention a few. In 2006 the Kilcourse administration announced plans to redevelop the area aka Gloucester Point.

Included in those plans were 3000 new homes being constructed by Beazer Home Construction and other well known contractors. Those plans were scrapped because of environment problems that would have taken 10 years or more to fix. In July 2010 the James administration announced a new light industrial plan for this area. ~Bill Cleary
