The Brooklawn Wiffleball Reunion is back for another 5 years according to Wiffleball spokesperson Colin Mac Adams. In September 2009, after 20 years under the lights at Barth Field the end of the era began almost immediately after the game.
Anonymous sources said many people left that final night with mixed emotions about the annual event.
It was not subject to budget cuts or anything that put an end to it, it was the aging Tom Mac Adams who thought it would be nice to pass on to the kids. With Brett Darrow and Erin Mac Adams off to college and Shane Mac Adams falling in loved and moving to Mt Laurel it left the newly appointed Commissioner Austin Darrow and Colin Mac Adam to run the Annual Event.
Once a lack of support was noticed the negotiations between Wiffleball Reunion founders Tom Mac Adams and Bruce Darrow began. Negotiations started in late March and continued until July 1 when a tentative agreement was reached.
Ken Mac Adams the agent representing both Darrow and Mac Adams, said his clients were basically worn out and that it was never their intention to end Wiffleball, but instead to become advisers to a new regime.
From the start new Commissioner Austin Darrow had little support from his appointed Board of Wiffleball. With little results and a lack of support from the Board’s representatives, Austin Darrow contacted agent Ken Mac Adams.
Ken Mac Adams said neither Tom nor Bruce saw this coming. It was their feeling that a smaller annual event would be held. But as things began to crumble and after Austin contacted me, we immediately began around the clock talks. Recently we even had to contact the wives and arrange a meeting. It was intense and not looking pretty; in fact the outlook was grim after that initial meeting. When contacted by the CNBNews.net about the new contract extension Bruce Darrow said \”we had some concerns about our wives as well as the product quality that would be put on the field so we wanted to make sure it was up to our standards before we would sign off on this event.\”
Tom Mac Adams expressed the need to honor our past. \”In the past year alone our Wiffleball community lost two very important people in Dan Mc Carthy and our announcer Bobby Barth. It is only fitting that we honor these guys. They were a major part of the Wiffleball experience.\”
Bruce Darrow went on to say \”Tom and I have discussed this extension and are happy with the hard work Ken put in. For the new contract to work and in our best interest someone else would have to tell our wives that our reunion had been extend another 5 years. We have some ideas that we want to share and we want to be able to honor our past by incorporating our past into the current format.\”
Tom invites all people interested in working to make this event come off to a meeting held in the Brooklawn School Gym, Thursday July 15 @ 8:00PM.
