$\"6a00d8341bf7d953ef0115724332f3970b-120wi\"$ On July 2, 2010 a lifelong resident of Gloucester City, NJ, age 75 yrs. Beloved husband of Dorothy A.(nee Hatton) and loving father of Joseph R. Fuhlbrick (Rita), Robert W. Fuhlbrick, Sharon L. Iliadis and Kathleen R. Clark.

He is also survived by his dear sisters Catherine Cordek and Lillian Roselle, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, particularly the Phillies, Flyers and Eagles.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet Wednesday morning from 11:00am to 12:00 noon at the ETHERINGTON-CRERAN FUNERAL HOME, 700 POWELL ST., GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the request of his family. There will be no evening viewing. WHEN EAST MEETS WEST Elementary Schools in Japan to get English

$\"6a00d8341bf7d953ef01156ff02a98970c-800wi\"$ Starting next fiscal year, all elementary schools will be required to introduce compulsory English lessons for fifth and sixth-graders. The scores of Japanese who take the test of English as a foreign language remain among the lowest in Asia, and thus their proficiency levels are very low as well, whereas other parts of Asia are making English education compulsory in elementary schools. Following are basic questions and answers about compulsory English education in Japanese elementary schools:

What will be the class frequency and who will teach the language?

From fiscal 2011, all fifth-and sixth-graders nationwide will have one lesson per week. Although the education ministry calls the lesson Gaikokugo Katsudo (Foreign Language Activities), English is a priority. The goal of the new curriculum is to help children experience and understand other languages and cultures, and nurture an inclination to actively communicate with others by becoming familiar with the sounds and basic expressions of another language, according to the ministry.
