Wee Willie\’ Webber dies, a beloved radio, TV star

BILL WEBBER often said that he didn\’t look forward to retirement. He
said that he wanted to continue working until they put him in the ground
– \”and maybe longer.\” William W. Webber, known as \”Wee Willie Webber\” to countless TV and radio fans in Philadelphia for more than half a century, longtime
officer of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia and a man who never
turned down a request to do a fundraiser, telethon or other charitable
benefit, died yesterday. He was 80 and lived in Center City. He had gone into Presbyterian Medical Center for heart surgery but died
before it could be performed. He was still working until a short time before his hospitalization. One of his stints was with disc jockey Jerry Blavat on WVLT in Vineland,
N.J., as well as spinning platters on Philadelphia\’s WHAT.

It seems Japan just can\’t let go of the recent reporting on Japanese TV about Yukio Hatoyama being the \”biggest loser\” at the \"6a00d8341bf7d953ef01156ff02a98970c-800wi\" recent nuclear summit because he asked for–but did not get–a one–on-one meeting with President Barack Obama.

He was described as hapless and in the view of the Obama administration officials, \”increasingly loopy.\”

The next day, a top aide to Hatoyama criticized the use of \”loopy\” as \”somewhat impolite.\” In a just world, that might have ended the matter. Alas, Hatoyama stunned members of the Japanese parliament, the Diet, last month when he said that the characterization may have been correct after all.\”As The Washington Post says, I may have been a foolish prime minister,\”Hatoyama said, using a rather mild interpretation of the term.

GCHS Alumni NEWS: LHP Zach Braddock recalled by Milwaukee Brewers from Triple-A Nashville

The lefty was called up May 23rd to cover for an already thin bullpen that was taxed in \"97208750.jpg.16039_display_image\" Saturday\’s 12-inning loss. He was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP in 16 innings at Triple-A Nashville. Braddock was born August 23, 1987 in Mount Holly, NJ, He graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School in 2005 where he played baseball under Coach Dennis Barth. He also pitched and played first base for the Brooklawn American Legion Team. In 2005 he was 18th draft pick by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Braddock (photo) pitched two scoreless innings in relief against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, May 23 to help the Brewers win 4-3.

Two Area Men Ordained to Priesthood by Bishop Galante

Most Reverend Joseph A. Galante, D.D., J.C.D., Bishop of Camden, ordained Peter Thomas and Phillip Max Johnson to the priesthood on Saturday, May 22 at services held at the Incarnation Parish in Mantua.


Thomas, 27, from Mantua, is a graduate of Clearview Regional High School in Mullica Hill, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, and The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He served as a transitional deacon at St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral in Camden. He will offer his first Mass on Sunday, May 23 at 2 PM at Incarnation Parish, Mantua.
