Turkey Day Football: Gloucester City HS vs Gloucester Catholic HS (see 2008 video)

Note: This article was first published November 2006. And each year prior to the annual Thanksgiving contest I run it again since it is timeless. Who wrote it? I don’t know anyone by the name of Lea Koros. It was sent via E-mail to me prior to the November 2006 game. Thank you Lea for the great article. If you are at the game this Thanksgiving please come forward and introduce yourself. Does anyone have a prediction on who will win this year? ~Bill Cleary

With the Lions / Rams game less then a week away the talk has begun. The \”ELECTION\” is over and the residents and alumni have started the annual rite only a local GHS or GCHS graduate can appreciate. This talk is for the locals not the wannabes, the talk is not held on the bus ride from Deptford or Washington Twp, but held at the Memorial A.A. church. I’ve heard the sermons at the bright orange church about mixed marriages. Lately the sermon preached why can’t we forgive and accept these marriages. How can a Lion marry a Ram? How can they send their children to that place on Cumberland St?

Yes, it has begun. Wednesday night the hardworking, church going, people of Gloucester will head to a local establishment and dissect the upcoming Turkey Day game. They will argue that no game on Turkey Day was better then the 1971 Delsea game. Or the Froggy Rebstock catch a few years later against Delsea. Anyway they look at it some old-timer will say it was the \”Shot heard round the world\”, forgetting they are talking about football and not the 1971 boys basketball.

By Albert Countryman Jr.

Members of the Church of The Ascension on Sussex Street in Gloucester City have welcomed their new pastor, Father Nathan Ferrell.

\”We need to grow in outreach to the community,\” Rev. Ferrell said. \”Most of our parishioners are outside of Gloucester City.\”

In a unique arrangement between the Church of the Holy Spirit, Bellmawr, and St. Luke’s Church, Westville, the three parishes will share Rev. Ferrell as their pastor, and each will pay one-third of his salary.

Straight From the Lion\’s Mouth with Keri Washington

By Mark Gola

\"Keri

Lions junior guard Keri Washington

Question: Many teen-aged girls aspire to play college basketball. What was the most important component that enabled you to play at The College of New Jersey?
Keri Washington
: The most important component I would have to say that inspired me would have to be my parents. Listening to your parents if very important. My parents always pushed me to take my game to the next level and never settle for an average performance.
Question: Since your mom and dad were both college basketball players in their day, they can say, \”What I would have done on that play is ….\” and actually back it up. How is that dynamic in your family?
KW: It\’s extremely dynamic because they can recall things that happened to them that are happening to me now. However it can be bad at the same time because if I have a bad game they are even tougher on me because they expect so much.
Q: What is your favorite memory (on or off the floor) from your experience competing in the Final Four?

\"PDA

KW: My favorite memory would  definitly have to be the fun room that they had in the hotel for us when we went to the Final Four. It was for all of the teams. There was an unlimited amount of candy, ice cream, gatorade, soda chips, and everything that was not good for us. They also had a WII, huge bean bag chairs, and computers. We spent so much time in there … when we weren\’t playing of course.

Question: What is the one song that you have to listen to on the bus or in the locker room before game-time?

KW: \”Wipe me Down\” by LIL boosie. The beat makes me so hyper.

Question: What is your (and your teammates) reaction when your former teammate Hilary, and now coach Klimowicz lines you up for sprints at practice?
KW:
We are assigned buddies at the begining of the year and Hilary was my buddy. So when she yells or tells us ro run sprints I usually just laugh and say \”oh buddy\”. But then I realize that she\’s not kidding when she doesnt smile back and I get on the line and try to come in first so she\’s not mad.

Question: Since you grew up in Ewing, NJ and went to high school down Route 31, is there any place that is a must to bring your friends?

KW: I would definitely reccommend Mama Flora\’s located in the Olden Ave. Shopping plaza. I LOVE their lasagna.

Question: What is your favorite food at TCNJ?

KW: Buffalo Chicken wrap from the Rat. I can never remember if I like blue cheese or ranch dressing on it so I always have to get both and figure out by which one tastes better. I usually pick the wrong one first.

NRA-ILA ::McDonaldv.City of Chicago

McDonald v. City of Chicago Friday, November 20, 2009

On November 16, the NRA filed its brief with the U.S. Supreme Court as Respondent in Support of Petitioner in McDonald v. City of Chicago. The NRA brief asks the U.S. Supreme Court to hold that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Fourteenth Amendment.

The McDonald case is one of several that were filed immediately after last year\’s decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, in which the Court upheld the Second Amendment as an individual right and struck down Washington, D.C.\’s ban on handgun possession, as well as the capital city\’s ban on keeping loaded, operable firearms for self-defense in the home.
