The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife will be holding two training sessions for teachers interested in learning about the Trout in the Classroom program. The sessions will be held at the Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center in Oxford on September 10 and 17, beginning at 5:30 PM.

The Trout in the Classroom Program (TIC) is a supplementary educational activity supported by the Division of Fish and Wildlife and the State Council of Trout Unlimited. It is a hands-on, science-based program where students learn about natural resource issues as they participate in the actual process of raising trout in their classroom.

The food selection did not disappoint, with something to appeal to all tastes.

Among the featured dishes were Italian ziti, meatballs and pepperoni, along with Japanese cookies and Mexican quesadillas.

Although it was difficult to overlook the popularity of the American fare (soft-pretzels, macaroni and cheese, potato chips), the Mexican dishes (Taquitos, fried rice) had eager tasters.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection\’s Division of Fish and Wildlife has been issued a Special Wildlife Management Permit to control feral hogs in Deer Management Zone 25. Feral hogs compete with wildlife for available food sources, prey upon ground-nesting birds and small mammals and may carry disease. For these reasons, feral hogs are classified as a potentially dangerous exotic animal. The increase in the population of feral hogs has also resulted in damage to lawns, golf courses, farm crops and forests in Gloucester County.
