NJ\’s Oxford Central School Posts 8th Best Score at National NASP Championship

The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) is a joint venture between school districts, schools and state Fish and Wildlife agencies. Several archery equipment manufacturers and organizations are also partners. In New Jersey, NASP is coordinated by the NJ DEP\’s Division of Fish and Wildlife. 

The program\’s focus is to provide International style target archery training in physical education classes for grades 4-12. NASP promotes student education, physical education and provides instruction for students as a gateway to participation in the lifelong sport of archery.

Josephine (late Edward) Laczkowski of Tucson, AZ. Pre-deceased by her siblings; Theodore P. (Molly) Lombardo, Rose (Joseph) Moffa, Andrea (Genny) Lombardo, Nina (Rocco) Magnotta, Joseph (Isabel) Lombardo, Anna (William) Laute, Angelo Lombardo and Antonio Lombardo. Survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Antonetta was born in Tyrone, PA and worked 29 years as a phone technician for Western Electric in Allentown, PA. She loved her family and friends. She enjoyed her trips to the casinos in Atlantic City. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her viewing on Monday morning from 9 to 10 am at Saint Andrew the Apostle R.C. Church: Route 561 (Haddonfield-Berlin Rd.) and Kresson – Gibbsboro Rd., Gibbsboro, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am in the church. Interment Berlin Cemetery, Berlin. No Evening Viewing.

Bellmawr Approves $190,000 Bond Law for Road Repairs

Mrs. Connie Kucharski received a proclamation from Bellmawr for the National Day of Prayer during the recent April Borough Council Meeting.

Councilwoman Regina Piontkowski made the presentation with Rev. Vincent Kovlak, Pastor of Bellmawr Baptist Church.

The 58th annual eventwas held Thursday, May 7, and was marked by a small, outdoor prayer service in front of Borough Hall.

In other business, Council President Steve Sauter chaired the meeting in the absence of Mayor Frank Filipek Sr., who was under the weather.

Under committee reports, Councilman Lou Di Angelo said the annual Easter Egg Hunt went very well, adding it ran longer than normal at approximately 20 minutes. Past hunts have been done in five minutes.

All resolutions and ordinances on the agenda were approved.

Okayed on first reading was a bond ordinance for $190,000 for road repairs on portions of Alcyon Drive, Lincoln Avenue, Park Drive, Saunders Avenue, Second Avenue and Wayne Road.

In addition to road repair, these streets will also receive partial reconstruction and overlay. The 500 block of Lincoln Avenue will also receive storm water repair.

Councilman John Bollinger cast the lone \”no\” vote during the roll call.

The second reading and public hearing will be during at the May Council Meeting Thursday, May 25.

Brooklawn Water Rates Going Up; First Time in 20 Years

For the first time in a long time, Brooklawn water rates are increasing.

\”It has been 20 years since there was an increase in the water rates,\” said Borough Clerk Barbara Lewis during the recent Borough Council meeting.

\”Did you say 20 years?\” several council members asked.

\”Yes, I did say 20 years,\” Lewis repeated. \”Since 1989 the rates have remained the same. This year the borough is faced with a $16,000 deficit in the water budget.\”

Council passed an ordinance on first reading raising the water charges to $50 per quarter.
