Gloucester City High\’s Chain shuts down Braves

In a battle between two of Gloucester County\’s top teams, Taylor Chain and the Gloucester City High School softball team got the better of Williamstown with a 4-0 Tri-County Conference inter-division victory. Gloucester entered the game ranked No. 1 in the Times-area Top 5; Williamstown is No. 2. Chain hurled a complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts, while going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs at the plate. Jill Stafford also had two hits and an RBI for the Lions.

WOODBURY HTS. The Gateway Regional High School baseball team bit Gloucester, 9-1, Friday afternoon, tallying up 14 hits and earning a berth in a South Jersey Group I semifinal. Dom DePasquale turned in a stellar performance both on the mound and at the plate for the second-seeded Gators, going the distance and striking out five while allowing just one run on five hits, then going 2-for-3 with an RBI double.

Skillful Angler Awards

$\"1536_fisherman_in_a_boat_surrounded_by_fish\"$ The NJ DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife\’s Skillful Angler Awards Program recognizes anglers who catch both freshwater and marine fish, which exceed a size threshold established for each species. In 2008, anglers submitted 168 applications representing 25 different species.

In addition to recognizing every skillful angler with a certificate documenting their catch, special recognition is given to the Adult, Junior, and Catch and Release anglers who catch the largest fish of each species.

Saint Mary\’s Track Team has Outstanding Year

Congratulations to the Saint Mary School Track Team! The boys remain the Division Champs and the girls did a great job this year placing 2^nd in the Division. Way to go team!!

$\"Championship%20meet%20nathaniel\"$ Special congratulations to James Burkhardt ( shown above) for not only breaking the St. Mary School’s record for the Long Jump, but for also breaking the longest standing league record since 1975 for the long jump. James jumped 17 feet 3 inches.

In addition to this to James Burkhardt broke the 100M record for our school on May 9^th; James ran a 12.79; the record was 12.9.

What is in the future for James? Well, James has qualified to begin training for the Junior Olympics. Good Luck James.

Pitman prevails on Satanoff\’s walk-off single

Cressman led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and scored the winning run on a walk-off single by Adam Satanoff. Cressman also hurled seven strong innings, surrendering three runs with seven strikeouts, as top-seeded Pitman edged No. 8 Riverside, 4-3, in a South Jersey Group I quarterfinal.
