The grass is always cut, the snow is shoveled, the trash is cleaned up. As I live directly across from the cemetery I can only imagine how unhappy I would be without the hard work of the Knights.

Out of respect for our dead, our history and our city, the city should at least help keep our cemeteries looking good.

FOOD DRIVE A SUCCESS

Thank you to the Gloucester City Little League and the Gloucester City Girls Softball for organizing the food drive recently.

It was very successful and added greatly to our food ministry. We appreciate all the work of everyone who participated and the generosity of those who donated food items to the drive.

Please let Mayor Wolk know that you want a tight budget during this stressful economic time. Most voters don\’t know that the Mayor has the authority to decide on the school tax increase even thought the budget was defeated!

It is a frenetic time for United States Catholics.

The Diocese of New York is preparing to usher in a new cardinal, and the Diocese of Boston and others nationwide are trying to handle the ongoing fallout from the priest sexual abuse scandal.

Closer to home, the protracted battle between the Diocese of Camden and several of its parishes threatened with mergers or closures continues in an increasingly steadfast man-ner.

So far, the reconfiguration of Gloucester City-area churches appears to be rolling along steadily and smoothly.

If a movie, it might be called All Quiet on the Western Camden Front.

But, outside Gloucester City, it is more like Too Quiet on the Western Front.

How dare some of you people go over my head and complain to Gloucester City that the grass is too high!

I have had this cemetery since December 17, 1994. No one came forth to help me then, and I don\’t want it now.

This year is no different than any other. We have never started cutting the grass prior to Easter week. I always wait until the flowers die off before we start cutting.

I go to the local florist shop and purchase all the bulbs from the flowers that did not sell. Then, we plant them at the headstones that do not have flowers or heirs. I do this out of my own pocket. You dare say I don\’t care!

Yes, I am outraged to hear this. The grass is far from being high. Just you wait until we all go broke – then you will see high grass. The cemetery trust fund, which is managed by PNC Bank Associates, has lost more than $42,000 in the stock market.

I have not said any thing about this until now, but that did not stop me from keeping the cemetery clean from the old Christmas decorations.

I have managed to keep one man (part time) in my employ over the past years. I cannot begin to say what I would have done, had I not had Tom Havers, a big thank you to Tom.

I used to get some very sizable donations from various people every year, but that too has come to pass.

I will do the best I can do with what I have to do with.

Go cut your own grass and leave this to me.

Cedar Grove Cemetery

Having formerly served as City Attorney and having to work with a lot of City Clerks through the years, I have found Paul to be extremely competent and dedicated.

He would never play politics in his position.

Sometimes when you follow the \”letter of the law,\” you may ruffle feathers.

In my opinion, the City Officials should leave him alone.

He will do a very competent job and not let the City that he loves, nor elected officials and local citizens, down.
