GET ALL THE FACTS BEFORE VOTING

In the April 9 issue of the Gloucester City News, Brooklawn Board of Education President Bruce Darrow asked that the members of the Board be congratulated for the hard work they performed in composing the school budget for the 2010-2011 school year, as they managed to produce a budget without raising school taxes for the eighth year in a row.

I, also, congratulate the Board members for their hard work, but not for the budget they produced.

Has it ever occurred to anyone on the board that there has been inflation since 2000?

What $100 brought in the 2000-2001 school year costs $126.44 in the 2008-2009 school year.

So, even though taxes remain stagnant, the actual money which goes to the students buys 80 percent of what it did eight years ago.
