GLOUCESTER CITY NJ-On March 19, 2009 at 6:34 p.m. Gloucester City Police along with the G.C.F.D. ambulance were dispatched to the 600 block of Powell Street for a report of a boy who was struck by a car.
Investigation determined a (6) year old boy ran into the street between two parked vehicles, a mini-van and an SUV, and into the path of an SUV traveling east on Powell Street. The driver of the SUV could not stop in time and struck the boy with the front bumper, knocking him to the ground. The boy was transported to the hospital for treatment. The injuries are reported to be minor at this time.
The driver of the SUV was not charged in the incident

He loved coaching Little League Baseball which he did for many years with Camden City & Bellmawr, NJ. He was employed at Food Fair Stores, Inc. for many years and also the Philadelphia Inquirer.

John T. Hartley
Age 74, born on July 12, 1934 passed away suddenly at home on Friday March 13, 2009. John was the beloved husband and best friend of Lynn A. (nee Montgomery) for 25 years.
He will be sadly missed. John is survived by his children; John E. (Patti), David P. (Christine) Jill E. Howarth, Beth (Jim) Aubin, Debbie (Marty) Widmeier and Charles Dolceamore. He is the brother of Joseph, Robert and Dolly Hartley and Kathy (Frank) Hassett and the late Adelaide. Relatives and friends are invited to join the Hartley family to remember and pay tribute to John on Friday between 6 and 9 pm with Masonic services at 8 pm at the HENRY FUNERAL HOME, 152 W. Atlantic Ave. Audubon.

Ladies Auxiliary, and a member and Officer of both the Gloucester City 4 Co. Firemen Assoc. Ladies Auxiliary and Pine Grove Firemen Assoc. Ladies Auxiliary. Alice was also a former member of the Gloucester City Board of Elections, the Third Ward Ladies Democrat Club, the Gloucester City Sr. Citizens and the Gloucester City PTA. Alice was an extremely giving and dependable person who gave generously of her time and talents. She was a great Homemaker and loved to go out dancing.

The Phillie Phanatic, mascot of the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies, paid a visit to a group of avid, young readers at Bellmawr Park School March 6 through his \”Phanatic About Reading\” program.
Making a special trip from his winter home in the Galapagos Islands, the big, furry green guy greeted the students in the All-Purpose Room for an hour-long assembly full of music, dancing, and a special reading by Principal Elizabeth Calabria.
Teacher Susan Hubbard said six students, part of a combined mainstream and special education curriculum, read enough books to be selected for the special event.
Along with Student Teacher Shana Keenan, the three first and three second graders sat in the front row as Mrs. Calabria read.
The Phanatic cavorted about, kissing people on the head, and throwing confetti around the room at will.
A Phillies representative said that Mrs. Hubbard’s class, comprised of First Graders Kristina B., Mark H., and Robert P., along with Second Graders Brandon D., Edward M., and Taylor M., was picked out of over 1,500 entries across the tri-state area.
Special emphasis was made of this feat, as only six students won out over larger classes throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
According to a \”friend\” of the Phanatic, the demand for appearances has them scheduled for several more through and including May. He said this is directly attributed to the Phillies’ World Series victory in October.
The \”Phanatic About Reading\” program took place in conjunction with the \”Read Across America\” program held throughout the country.

Bombarded by superhero lore almost from birth, many Americans grow to revere fictional heroes as well as sports and celebrity icons. But silence descended over the cabin of a flight bound from Jacksonville, Fla., to Baltimore when the conversation turned to those who had earned the nation\’s highest honor for valor – even when a free cocktail hung in the balance.
