Over 400 Attend St. Mary Communion Breakfast

GLOUCESTER CITY: On Sunday, February 22, St. Mary School celebrated its first annual Communion Breakfast. The turnout was tremendous with over 400 people in attendance. St. Mary School is celebrating its 150th Anniversary and has the distinction of being the first and oldest Catholic Elementary School in South Jersey.

\"Dr. The Communion Breakfast started off with Mass and was followed by a very distinguished speaker, Dr. Patrick Harker, President of the University of Delaware.

Dr. Harker is a graduate of SMS Class of 1973. Dr. Harker spoke about the opportunities provided to him and the countless others who attended St. Mary School.

Joseph Rafferty, Superintendent of Mt. Ephraim School District and a graduate of the Class of 1975 was the master of ceremonies for the event. Mr. Rafferty had the pleasure of honoring The Dominican Sisters of Hope for their 150 years of dedication to St. Mary School.

Mr. Rafferty also honored Mrs. Marie Tedesco (Klaus), Class of 1928 and Mr. Andy Nolan, Class of 1934 as senior members of the graduating classes of SMS. Mrs. Tedesco is a member of St. Mary’s Parish and resides in Gloucester.

Mr. Andy Nolan resides in Connecticut and we were very fortunate that he was able to attend.

The Rafferty family was honored as a \”Legacy Family\” of St. Mary School. In attendance was Joe Rafferty – Class of 1975, Mary Francis (Rafferty) – Class of 1976, Annie Peeke(Rafferty)- Class of 1972, Katie Narducci(Rafferty)- Class of 1971, and James Rafferty – Class of 1963

At the conclusion of the ceremony Mr. Rafferty gave a very inspirational speech regarding the \”fundraising campaign\” that was kicked off during the Communion Breakfast.

\"Rafferty, To honor the Dominican Sisters of Hope a fund was created. The Dominican Sister of Hope Education Fund will be used promote the education of the children of St. Mary’s School. Dr. Patrick Harker and his family generously kicked off the campaign with a donation of $5000.

Calvin W. Borman
BORMAN, Calvin W. On March 10, 2009, of Mt. Ephraim. Age 82. Beloved husband of 60 years of Laura (nee Sebastiano). Devoted father of Laura Davis (the late Harold), Joseph, Rocco, Carl and Richard (Angel).

Loving grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 11. Pre-deceased by 11 brothers and sisters. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Calvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of VFW Post #6262 in Mt. Ephraim and American Legion Post #274 in Camden. He was also a member of SOI Vita Nuova Lodge, Holy Name Society and an Organizer for the House of Charity. He was a founding member of Ancona Little League and was formerly involved with Cub Scouts. Cal worked for the NY Shipyard and retired from Campbell Soup Co.

There will be a viewing from 6 to 9pm Friday eve and 8:15 to 9:15am Saturday morning at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. Funeral Mass 10am Saturday at Sacred Heart RC Church, Mt. Ephraim. Interment New St. Mary\’s Cemetery, Bellmawr. Expressions of sympathy may be e-mailed to [email protected]

DANELLA,Helen P. (Nee Pratt) of Clarksboro, formerly of Gloucester City, NJ, passed on March 2, 2008, age 88 years. Helen was born in National Park, NJ and was employed with RCA in Cherry Hill for more than 20 years.

Helen is the beloved wife of the late John V. Danella. Loving mother of Diane Cunliffe of Charlotte, NC, and Donna Thomson of Turnersville, NJ. Devoted grandmother of Kenneth Cunliffe, Christine Taylor and Scott Thomson, and great grandmother of six. Dear sister of Nicholas J. Pratt and Dorothy (Dolly) Snyder.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 10:30 AM in St. Mary\’s R.C. Church, Gloucester City, NJ. The family will receive friends at the Church from 10:00 to 10:30 AM. Interment at New Saint Mary\’s Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung Center, 200 Trenton Rd., Browns Mills, NJ 08015-1799. Arr. under the direction of the McGuinness Funeral Home, Turnersville, NJ.
