Robert McGovern, St. Mary\’s Parishioner, former Jaycee Member

\"Cross On February 21, 2009. Age 63. Of Blackwood. Formerly of Gloucester City. Loving son of Mary McGovern (nee Bonhage) and the late Vincent D. McGovern. Loving brother of Kathleen \”Kass\” (Thomas) Reed, Vince (Dolores) McGovern, John (Jona) McGovern, Bernadette (James) Moore, the late Mary Ann (surviving John) Petroski and the late Ellen C. (surviving Michael) Horgan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Robert was a long time resident of Gloucester City and a graduate of Camden County Vocational Technical High School. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s R.C. Church and a former member of the Gloucester City Jaycees.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his visitation on Tuesday morning from 10 to 11 am at Saint Mary’s R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 am in the church. Cremation will be private. No evening viewing nor viewing at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Robert’s memory to the Saint Mary’s R.C. Church Special Fund: 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City, NJ 08030.

Military Fields 10,000th Mine-resistant Vehicle to Troops in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Feb. 20, 2009 – The U.S. military fielded its 10,000th mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicle in Iraq today during a ceremony on Camp Liberty, just 22 months after it was introduced into the theater of operations.

Servicemembers and civilians from across Victory Base Complex gathered among rows of MRAPs at the largest fielding site in Iraq to acknowledge the success the vehicle has had in protecting thousands of troops from blasts caused by roadside bombs.

Investigation Confirms Civilian Casualties in Afghanistan Strike

KABUL, Afghanistan, Feb. 21, 2009 – An investigation into a Feb. 17 coalition air strike in Afghanistan\’s Heart province has confirmed that 13 noncombatants and three enemy fighters were killed, military officials reported.

A combined Afghan National Army and coalition forces investigation team, accompanied by international observers, inspected the site this week to determine the identities of those killed.
Investigators found weapons and ammunition at the site, and Afghan army officers met with village leaders following the incident.
