Gloucester City High School was the most-improved locally in 11th-grade language arts. It had 86.2 percent of its test-takers score at the proficient level or better, compared with 69.5 percent five years ago.

Erin MacAdams scored her 1,000th point on a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and the Gloucester High School girls basketball team defeated Clayton, 63-41, in a Tri-County Conference Classic Division game on Thursday. MacAdams scored a game-high 19 points, while Marisa Cooper added 15 and Kaylee Conner added 12 for the Lions.

Alexandria, VA – The Commission\’s Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Management Board approved an increase to the 2009 scup total allowable landings limit from 7.84 million pounds to 11.18 million pounds, with the commercial quota revised to 8.4 million pounds and the
recreational harvest limit revised to 2.6 million pounds (after the research set aside was educted).
