Gloucester Catholic wins City rivalry

Catholic jumped out to a 12-1 lead in the first quarter and was led by Caitlyn Sweeney and Julie Genther, who had 16 and 10 points respectively. Sweeney also hit the only two 3s of the game as the Rams improved to 9-6 overall. Marisa Cooper dropped 17 in the loss, but it was not enough as Gloucester falls to 12-2 on the season.

Maryann Simila, of Brooklawn, GCHS Alumni Class of \’62

(Nee-Tiefenthaler) On January 30, 2009, of Brooklawn, NJ. Age 64 years.

\"Cross Beloved wife of Edward J. Simila. Dear mother of Teresa Simila. Loving sister of Francis (Catherine) Tiefenthaler, Jr., the late Henry (Barbara) Tiefenthaler and the late Joseph T. Tiefenthaler (Vietnam Conflict). Sister-In-Law of John (the late Dolores) Simila, James (Catherine) Simila, Florence (Rick) Matz, Mary (John) Ragen and the late Robert (Frances) Simila. She is also survived by 108 nieces and nephews.

Maryann was born in Philadelphia and lived out her life in Brooklawn, NJ. She graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School in 1962 and shortly after married Edward Simila of Gloucester City. Maryann was a proud housewife and mother. She loved her family and was most happy spending time with them.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Tuesday 8:30 to 10:30 AM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 820 Haddon Ave. (at Lees Ave.), Collingswood, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday 11 AM at the Church of St. Maurice, 401 Community Rd., Brooklawn, NJ. Interment New St. Mary\’s Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her name to Caring Hospice, 102 Gaither Dr., Suite 2, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054.

Gloucester High\’s LIL’ MAC

Sometime in the next few games and by the time the GCN is delivered to your door, Gloucester High’s Erin Mac Adams will reach the 1,000 point mark. Scoring 1,000 points in High School is a measure of a player’s legacy.

 \"032907_1656_macadamsnam1\" Papers throughout the South Jersey will comment on this milestone and most if, not all will point out Mac Adams height. But, little do these papers know that Mac Adams height is not an obstacle in basketball. The only place that height matters is the opening jump ball which is one of the few things Mac Adams does not do on the court. She rebounds, steals the ball and makes everyone around her better.

What Mac Adams has everyone has; a heart, unlike most athletes in any sport Mac Adams plays with heart the entire game and her entire life. Early on in her basketball career Mac Adams would be seen playing on her backyard court. She would play one on one in second grade against the Lion’s basketball player Brett Darrow and never once played like it was for fun. Mac Adams back then treated Darrow like everyone she does today with a determination and desire that would not let her lose.

Pro basketball player Spud Webb stands 5’ 4\” tall won the NBA slam dunk contest and Mac Adams is winning the hearts of fans and most importantly young girls looking to be like Erin.
