— Never underestimate the power of words or those who wield it. A major news magazine, several newspapers, websites and bloggers last week published stories slamming the practice of \”trophy hunting,\” or so it seemed to both hunters and anti-hunters who began circling wagons.

Problem is: The study at the root of all the hoopla concerned mainly fish and snails.

GLOUCESTER CITY-The Officers of the Carmen Palmiero Basketball League have suspended two coaches and a fan on Zero Tolerance charges. The individuals involved became engaged in a verbal confrontation during a girls 5^th & 6^th grade basketball game. As tensions rose the Gloucester City Police were summon. Uon their arrival the CITY Police called for mutual response from surrounding towns.

The Gloucester City Police along with the referees in charge ended the game and the situation was referred to the C.P.B.L. officers.

An officer of the C.P.B.L. League stated \”The situation at the Cold Spring School was dealt with immediately and within one hour of the incident all people involved were contacted about the suspension. The League will not tolerate these actions and will be dealt with immediately. The League attempts to provide the best coaches for all our teams with little or no cooperation from parents. We make an annual plea for coaches and get very few candidates. We give teams to men and women who offer to give up their time to coach and this is the first time in the leagues existence that we had to Zero Tolerance anyone. The League needs more of the parents of the over 150 players to become more involved.

\”We ask that judgment of anyone and the C.P.B.L. should be reserved until you have become a volunteer and experience the difficulty the volunteers in ALL community groups encounter\”.

GLOUCESTER CITY: January 23, a CONRAIL train passes the rotten railroad ties and trash that lines the railroad tracks along Johnson Blvd and all of Klemm Avenue to Rt. 130. Workers for CONRAIL replaced the old ties with new ones two months ago. But the workers left the old ones thrown about along with empty tar buckets.

Congratulations to Macey Cropski, of Gloucester City, who recently placed First in the Uneven Bars, at the New Jersey Gymnastics Competition Level #6. With a score of 9.55 Macey set a new state record.
