Ewing, NJ—-The College of New Jersey’s senior women’s lacrosse player, Karen Doane (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) added an additional honor to her extensive list of accomplishments. On Thursday, she was named to the 2007-2008 ESPN The Magazine At-Large Academic All-America College Division Third team for her accomplishments in the classroom and on the playing field.

American Forces Press Service WASHINGTON, June 12, 2008 – President Bush issued a proclamation urging Americans to observe National Flag Week and Flag Day on June 14, and to recognize the sacrifices U.S. servicemembers have made through U.S. history to protect the freedoms for which the flag stands. The proclamation reads, in part: \”Since the first days of our Republic, Americans have flown the flag to show their pride and appreciation for the freedoms they enjoy in this great nation. Every day, Americans pledge their allegiance to the flag of the United States, and our troops carry it before them as they defend the liberties for which it stands. \”On Flag Day and during National Flag Week, we remember those in uniform whose courage and sacrifice inspire us here at home. We also remember the rich history of one of our oldest national symbols and reflect on our duty to carry our heritage of freedom into the future.\”

Hi Mr. Sea.

You know by now it shouldn\’t shock me as to how heartless people really are.

Last week I came out my door and I saw my neighbor across the street looking at her car; she was saying something to my other neighbor.

Then I saw a cat lying under her car. She said to me, \”someone just threw the cat out of the car in front of your house\”. I thought I misunderstood her. She repeated it again, \”somebody pulled up to your house and opened the car window and threw the cat out the window and took off.\”

I checked the cat out and he was ok, no injuries.

We tried to find the car but we couldn’t. We called the police and the cop who answered the call in my opinion was very rude. Like I was bothering him.

I was told there is a building the City has been using for strays and so I asked the cop if we could take this cat there.

He said there wasn\’t such a place.

I know there is one.

We didn\’t want to take him to the county shelter since the county is not a NO kill shelter. The cop says he wasn’t going to take him so let him go.

Tell me this Mr. Sea, wouldn’t I be breaking the no leash law if I followed his instructions.

American Forces Press Service WASHINGTON, June 10, 2008 – U.S. and Afghan troops used mortar fire yesterday to defeat insurgents who fired upon a forward operating base in Afghanistan\’s Zabul province, military officials said.

I received the following letter in today’s mail (Wednesday) about sex offenders living in our city who are residing close to some schools and play grounds. The letter begins,

Bill, I\’m sure you\’ll agree long gone are the days of this tight knit community in which everyone knew each other and we all looked out for one another. So sad.

During a recent search of http://familywatchdog.us/ I noted that Gloucester City houses quite a number of registered sex offenders, ten to be exact. This website, along with the information it offers, is little known to our residents. I was SHOCKED to find just how many offenders are in town, let alone IN THE AREA OF SCHOOLS with one even LIVING NEXT TO A PARK AND A SCHOOL BUS STOP! This monster is a Tier II – Moderate Risk of re-offense and HE LIVES NEXT TO A PLAYGROUND AND A BUS STOP!

 

A celebration this June marks the 100^th four- year graduation of Gloucester City High School.

It will be marked with events and the sharing of unbelievable memorabilia from the past 100 years.

Anyone who has been part of that history, or who has family or friends who have been part of that history, will not want to miss out on the celebration.

Formal education began in Gloucester City the late 1700s, with the opening of a one-room log school on the edge of town.

\”Is there any way to accelerate the stream bank project,\” Brooklawn Councilman Gerald Granstrom asked during the May meeting.

Borough Engineer Chuck Riebel Jr. said the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) expected everything to be in order and to start the improvements within three months.

\”After all is in order then the project would have to go out to bid for three months, taking the project up to winter time,\” he said.

Commencement exercises for the Alice Costello School Class of 2008 were held on Monday evening, June 9, 2008 at the Alice Costello School. Graduation diplomas were presented to 34 students. This year the students chose the theme \”Don\’t Stop Believing\” for the commencement exercises.

Highlighting the evening was the presentation of awards to outstanding graduates.
