Sound Off! Camden County Bear Hunters help law enforcement with sting operation

by Gary Devine

Two Camden County Hunters from Atco, New Jersey step up and helped law enforcement do a sting operation against five animal rights activists in the forest of Sussex County, New Jersey back in December 2005. The Municipal Judge found the Activists Guilty in 2006. The Superior court upheld the conviction and the third and final appeal went to the State Appellate Court. Below is the story. What is amazing is two bear hunters from Camden County had to come forward and assist Law Enforcement to bring justice to the forest in Sussex County. Others hunters from the northern part of the state did not want to get involved. Bill and Jon drove three hours each time to honor the subpeona for court. This is a major case for the New Jersey Hunter Harassment law. It\’s now case law. The bear hunt issue goes all the way to the Governor for stopping the bear hunt since 2005.

In December of 2005, two members of my family were harassed, stalked and threaten in the woods of New Jersey and the story was in all the north Jersey newspapers and on television news in New York and in New Jersey. The state law enforcement didn\’t want their names of the Camden County hunters printed in the news do to the threats issued against them by the activists.

Woodbury Kiwanis Name HOBY Ambassadors

The Kiwanis Club of Woodbury has announced Hugh O\’Brian Youth (HOBY) Ambassadors from area high schools chosen to attend the HOBY Foundation Leadership Seminar.

Sophomores sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Woodbury include Brittany Van Natta, West Deptford High School; Dominic DeLaurentis, Clearview Regional High School; Victoria McLeester, Gateway Regional High School and Dale Davis, Woodbury High School.

In 1976, Kiwanis clubs began sponsoring student attendance at three-day weekend Hugh O\’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminars. These students, limited to one sophomore per high school, are selected by the school administrators because of their demonstrated leadership potential.

Once a school identifies the student, Kiwanis Club of Woodbury pays the sponsorship fee which includes the student\’s housing, meals and other related seminar costs. In addition, Kiwanis honors the students at a club meeting.

HOBY\’s goal has been to seek out, recognize and develop leadership potential commencing with high school sophomores. One of HOBY\’s missions is to stimulate these young ambassadors to demonstrate their leadership abilities when they return home for the betterment of their community and country.
