Gloucester City: TROPICAL ILLUSIONS SALON

By

Sara Martino

The Tanning Rooms are named Tranquil, Serenity, Paradise and Sunset. Mood music relaxes you as you are on your way to a nice healthy look. According to owner, Joe Kent, (photo) there are many steady, loyal customers who come to the Tropical Illusions Salon and they all are treated to the tropical scenery as they enter the salon and while getting a tan.

Some customers visit the Salon in order to get a base tan before vacationing. \”This can help in preventing bad sunburn,\” Joe said. The ten to fifteen minute sessions are relaxing and can certainly be a mood-up lifter.

A bathing suit may be worn in the private tanning booths and tanning beds. If you prefer an all over body tan, there is complete privacy. \”Occasionally, we would have to knock on the door to wake up a snoozing customer,\” said Maria, a salon employee, who along with Patty and Jessica, assist the men and women with their tanning.

Yes, men and women of all ages from 16 to 75 years old are customers. \”We are especially busy near Prom time. In the afternoons, many students will come in after school. We do have a lot of mother and daughter coming in to get a tan together,\” said Joe.

Seniors may partake of the tanning process for a nice price of $99.00 for three months. At the present time, the cost of a one week unlimited tanning bed is only $17.00. Or the cost of the beds range from one session at $8.00 up to ten sessions at $42.00 and monthly sessions are available at special prices.

If you prefer to stand and get your tan, the booth is private and you can even have your teeth whitened at the same time if you like.

Use of the VHR Booth varies from a charge of $12.00 for one session and up to $100.00 for 10 sessions. There are always specials available and flyers may be picked up at the salon. \”Word of mouth brings in a lot of our customers. We also advertise in the local newspapers, appear on Channel 19 and have our flyers displayed in area diners,\” Joe said

\”Every six months, we like to change the bulbs in the equipment to produce an increased enhancement of the tanning process. We have new Sizzler 10.5 replacement bulbs ready to be installed now,\” said Joe.

If you would like to purchase some tanning lotions to help accelerate your tan before you go into the bed, the salon has \”tingles \” and \”no tingles\” lotions, moisturizers, and various bronze tanning lotions. Toe rings, bracelets, tank tops, sweat shops and other accessories are for sale in the salon.

The previous owner of Tropical Illusions was Thomas Stewart, who perished while on duty as a Gloucester City fire fighter on the Fourth of July, 2002 in Gloucester City. \”Tom\’s family helped me out a lot with the business when I purchased Tropical Illusions in November 2001,\” Joe said. Joe is a Gloucester City resident and is retired from the Waterford Township Police Department.

\”Get a golden tan without the sun\”, the Tropical Illusions\’ flyers say. Appointments can be made prior to a visit or there is only a short wait for walk-ins. The salon is open seven days a week from 10am to 9pm Monday thorough Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

KEAN: GOVERNOR SHOULD CONSIDER SPENDING FREEZE IF STATE IS IN RECESSION

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean issued the following statement regarding Governor Jon Corzine’s published remarks that he believes the nation is in recession:

\”Six months ago I called on Governor Corzine to follow the lead of New York City and State and impound unspent monies. Now that the governor has acknowledged in the press that he believes we are in a recession, he must take action to safeguard the budget from unforeseen financial shocks.

\”The governor and the State Treasurer should update legislators on revenue and spending projections immediately. If we are in recession, then it’s likely the estimates legislators are using to guide the budget debate are already out of date. Corzine should give an immediate report on any revenue or spending changes since his budget address and commit to providing regular revenue and spending reports to aid the legislature as the budget is crafted in committee.

\”In addition, I am concerned New Jersey is moving too slowly to respond to this economic downturn. Both the City and the State of New York have been preparing for declining revenues for months.

\”I urge the governor to consider an immediate freeze on non-essential spending and delay plans for any new borrowing. Then we must draft a budget that it is as conservative as the times demand. It isn’t too late to prepare for an economic storm. The governor must demonstrate leadership and act, and he must do it now.\”

Pet Tips by Allan: Toys for your dog

Hey Bill ,

Dog Quote: The great pleasure of a dog is that you make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, he will make a fool of himself
too.
….Samuel Butler

*********************************
Close your eyes Erica I have a surprise for you!

There are many benefits in giving your dog the right toys to play with.

While most people think that dog toys are only to relieve boredom this is not the only use for these toys.

Sure dog toys are excellent for relieving boredom and are especially good where you might have to leave your dog on it\’s own for periods of time,
but there are other reasons why you should consider buying your dog toys.

Some dog toys are designed to boost their intelligence where they will only get a reward after they have performed certain tasks.

These toys are a very effective method of training.

Other toys help a dog to know what they can chew and in doing so you can save yourself a lot of expense by not having to replace expensive items
throughout the house that can be destroyed at the teeth of your pet.

There are chewing toys that will help your dog strengthen and keep their teeth clean and there are toys that will help teach your dog with retrieval training.

You really need to decide what you want the toys for before buying and also to determine what the personality of your dog is before you can get the
right toys for it.

Some toys are designed to last for a short period of time when they will be replaced by new ones, and these are often the chewing variety.

Some toys of the chewing variety are flavored so you will need to check first to see what ingredients they have used for the flavoring or you might be buying a toy that your dog is allergic to.

These toys with flavoring often have preservatives in them so beware.

With such a wide variety of toys available on the market these days there is certain to be something that your dog will enjoy and make their life all
the more happy.
