Pet Tips: Separation Anxiety by Alan

Dog Quote: They are better than human beings, because they know but do not tell…..Emily Dickenson

Separation Anxiety

Many people are unaware that separation anxiety even exists with their dog. There are many different traits that can be seen in a dog due to separation anxiety. When we leave home for work each day, most people are unaware of what their dog is experiencing, and for many of them it is separation anxiety. We assume that because the dog appears to be happy when we arrive home at the end of the day that it has been happy all day long. In many instances, the dog could have had quite a traumatic day.

Many dogs are concerned that when their owner leaves, they might not be coming back. They have no way of knowing that we will be back in eight or nine hours. The stress that this causes for a dog can lead to destructive behavior where they will chew everything in sight. Other dogs might express their stress by soiling the house.

Either way, if you come home from work and find that your well-trained dog has done something out of the ordinary you need to consider whether it has had a stressful day or not, and certainly not reprimand it until you know what the circumstances have been. If you sense your dog has been stressed during the day, you might like to consider giving it more toys to stop it from becoming bored, or better still, have somebody call in and visit at some stage throughout the day so it knows that it is not alone. Exercising your dog in the morning before you leave is a good idea because it is more likely to sleep during the day.

Another method to reassure your dog that you will be coming back when you leave is to do several smaller trips in the course of a few days or weeks, where the dog becomes more and more accustomed to you leaving and returning at different intervals. By slowly extending these hours of separation, your dog will become accustomed to it, thereby eliminating separation anxiety.

When East Meets West/Topic: Gas

By Hank Miller

Actually this has nothing to do with When East Meets West It\’s Just A Point Of Interest For You Gas Weary People Back There ! Below is a little something I happen to come across the other day and thought that it may interest most of you readers back in the South Jersey area. WHERE TO BUY YOUR USA-GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON– Gas rationing in the 80\’s worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods.

We should return the favor.

An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don\’t import their oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank,I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil .

These companies import Middle Eastern oil :
Shell………………………. 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco……… 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil…………… 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway… 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco……………………….62,231,000 barrels

Citgo……………………from South America, from a Dictator who hates Americans
If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! (oil is now $55-$60 a barrel)

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

Sunoco……………….0 barrels
Conoco………………0 barrels
Sinclair……………..0 barrels
BP/Phillips…………0 barrels
Hess…………………..0 barrels
ARC0………………..0 barrels

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy by the way and they are required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. But to have an impact,we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers.It\’s really simple to do. Now, don\’t wimp out at this point…. keep reading and I\’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I\’m sending this note to about thirty people . If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)… and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) .. and so on,by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers !!!!!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next eight days !Thank heavens here in Japan we do not have any real gas problem but if we did I would start a campaign here too.

Warm Regards From Kitakyushu City , Japan.

Mount Ephraim Wins First Championship in 55 Years

(Story and Photo by Bill Bates)

MOUNT EPHRAIM CHAMPS – the 2007 Senior League New Jersey District 14 Champions, posing with their new banner and the District Champions trophy Thursday night following their win over Gloucester City. The final score 7-4. (Click photo to enlarge)

It was a quiet night; the temperature was 80 degrees with a light breeze. The ball field was packed with parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends alike on both sides. Our American Flag was flying high above, the concession stands were open, and it was time to \”play ball\”.

For the first time in its 55 year history, Mount Ephraim has won a District 14 Little League championship. Wade Geis had 11 strikeouts and Mike McHugh came in to get the save as the senior all star team beat Gloucester City, 7 to 4, at a game played under the lights at the Johnson Boulevard Fields on Thursday, July 12. Geis helped himself out with two hits and two RBI\’s, Don Eaise added two hits and Matt McLean scored twice and continued his leadership behind the plate as Mount Ephraim went undefeated in the tournament.

The Little League boys senior team did an awesome job! Congratulations to everyone who has had a part in these boys\’s Little League career throughout the years. Both teams have had an incredible season up to this game.

Mount Ephraim\’s next game will be played this Monday (July 16) at the Johnson Boulevard Field, Gloucester City against another District Championship Team Winner unknown at the time of this post. The results will be announced following the game on The NOTEBOOK.

Fishermen Are In A Spot

By Ralph Knisell

Once again fishermen are in a spot where they have to fight for their rights to pursue their sport in saltwater. Gary Caputi is a dedicated saltwater fishermen and also the Corporate Relations Director for the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA). In an article in last week\’s Fisherman Magazine, Caputi reveals how a proposition called Oceans-21 (H.R.2) is going to tragically harm the recreational fisherman of this country. According to Jim Donofrio, Executive Director of the RFA, it is just another issue that comes from the extreme anti-fishing radicals in an effort to do critical harm to the recreational community (that\’s you and me). It will do so by adding a lot more regulations to the fishery management process and at the same time, give a diminishing role and input of fishermen into the management of the nation\’s fishery. more
