Brooklawn Mayor John Soubasis and members of Council are determined to maintain and enforce the town\’s ordinances that will keep the residents safe, healthy, and able to continue to enjoy the beauty of their community.
As such, special ordinances were heard on first reading at the recent council meeting. The second and final readings will be heard after a public hearing scheduled for Monday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building.
\”I need each department, the public works, the police department, the water department, and every borough employee to cooperate and to be vigilant regarding violations in the borough,\” the mayor said. \”Report to the supervisors and they will contact the code enforcement persons.\”
The governing body wants the enforcement of the ordinances.
\”If each department does their part, the borough government and employees will continue to serve the residents by maintaining the beautification of their hometown,\” Soubasis said.
Chapter 136 in the code book of the borough relates to trailers and camp cars.
\”Any vehicle used or intended to be used as a conveyance upon the public streets or highways… or otherwise in such a manner as to permit the occupancy thereof as a permanent or temporary dwelling or sleeping place for one or more persons and having no permanent foundation.\”
The amendment to this ordinance will state that: \”Trailers and camp cars are prohibited from parking in the Borough. It shall be unlawful for any person to park or to reside, dwell or live in, either permanently or temporarily, any trailer or camp car in, or along any street, road or highway in the Borough of Brooklawn or on any premises whatsoever within the limits of the Borough of Brooklawn.\”
Some exceptions include the temporary situation when a resident has visitors with a trailer but it can not be used by any person as a dwelling or residence.
Another ordinance referring to Chapter 141 of the code Book states the fines and restrictions of vehicles and traffic in the Borough.
In part, the general provisions in the proposed ordinance state the fine of $28 shall be imposed by the Violations Borough for the following parking violations on the streets or in the commercial centers:
No parking, one side only; no parking, alleyways or entrances; restricted ho-urs of parking; bus zones; school zones; no parking in handicapped sign areas; fire zones in the Brooklawn Shopping Center and all fire zones; no parking between curb and the sidewalk.
Also, Chapter 124 of the Code Book refers to streets and sidewalks.
\”The articles referring to sidewalk, construction, re-pair and maintenance will include the amendment that will restrict the placement of basketball standards and other equipment or apparatus for the playing of basketball or any other sport that would be placed on private property or in the vicinity of any public right of way.
\”Also, no person shall place, deposit, fix or allow to remain on any utility pole located on any sidewalk adjacent lands or streets, in such a manner that the intended use of the article so attached to the pole would wholly or partially obstruct or encumber the sidewalks, streets or public right-of-way.
\”Persons convicted of violating the ordinance shall be subject to fines.\”
Residents concerned with the ordinances may attend and speak at the public hearing on Monday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m.
Copies of all ordinances in their entirety may be obtained free of charge at the Borough Hall, Monday through Thursday, between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
An ordinance to amend
Chapter 116 of the Code Book relates to the registration and licensing of rental properties in the Borough and was adopted at final reading during the council meeting and includes:
\”Each rental unit within a rental facility shall be registered for a period of one year or upon a change in occupancy.
\”No rental facility shall be rented unless the rental facility and units therein are registered and licensed in accordance to the code.
\”Each rental unit shall be inspected at least once every 12- month period.\”
An annual registration fee will now cost $200 per rental unit.
