Of Gloucester City, NJ, formerly of Deptford, NJ, died on Feb. 13,2007 at the age of 80 yrs. Beloved husband of Fay Scargill (nee Okeson), ( and of the late Carolyn Scargill).
Dear father of: Earl Scargill (Barbara) of Franklinville, NJ, Carol Keating of Lindenwold, NJ, and Robert Scargill (Georgeann) of Gloucester City, NJ. Loving step-father of Joyce Baker, and Robert Baker (Bonnie), both of Blackwood, NJ. Earl is also survived by one brother Richard Scargill (Maryann) of PA, numerous grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Earl was a retiree of the Langston Corp., Lawnside, NJ, a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran, member of: Woodbury Bowling League, Magnolia Senior Citizens, and Golden Slippers of Blenheim.

Gloucester vs Sterling 5th and 6th Grade Boys

Traveling Tuesday to Magnolia through ice and snow, the Fifth and Sixth grade Gloucester City Boys Team (7-3) entered the home of Sterling (2-7). Two weeks ago Gloucester beat the same Sterling team but, Gloucester playing for the third time in four days without point Steven Jackson (home sick) and the injured Austin Darrow (wrist surgery) entered play needing a win to stay in the bid for the playoffs.

The game started as Gloucester\’s Stefano Okoro won the opening jump. Gloucester goes on a early 5-0 run with Ikoro and Chris Walmsley each scoring, before Sterling makes and amazing recovery by outsourcing the locals 11-2. The First quarter ended with Gloucester leading 11-7.

As the Second quarter started Gloucester\’s already injured Darrow is knocked to the floor. To show he was not to be denied his playing time, Darrow banged his hand to the floor to show who was the boss and continued to play while injured.

With a struggling Okoro on the bench Sterling takes a halftime lead of 35-21.

Sterling opens the Second half with several missed foul shots. Sterling is a quality team and their record does not reflect it. They continued their onslaught of Gloucester.

Throughout the Third quarter, Gloucester attempts to stay with Sterling. But the players on Sterling were impressive with their athletic moves. As a result Sterling kept the Bee\’s defense on its heals as they continue to draw fouls. If only Sterling could teach the Gloucester players some of these fancy moves.

After more foul shots Sterling ends the Third quarter leading 50-30.

As the Fourth quarter starts Gloucester puts pressure on the ball and scores a quick 4 points. After a Sterling time-out both teams battle back and forth trading baskets. After a short time out for a Sterling player to tie his shoes the play continues. Each time Gloucester appears to be making a run at Sterling their opponent comes back an scores.

Trailing by 18 points Gloucester calls it\’s third timeout of the game. Gloucester immediately missed three straight foul shots. As the time winds down to two minutes Gloucester trails 60-42. Gloucester again misses four foul shots as the clock ticks to 0:00 and loses the game 64-46.

City Volunteer Firemen Association Report Funds Are Missing From Softball Marathon Account

ClearysNotebook received an anonymous email this morning (Monday Feb. 12) stating monies raised during this year\’s annual Fireman\’s Softball Marathon has been stolen.

A reporter contacted Gloucester City Mayor William James who said, \”I heard the rumor, but that is all I know.\” He referred all questions to the police department.

The reporter also contacted Station 51 Fire Chief Brian Hagan. Who said, \”There is an investigation being made into the allegation. I can\’t comment any further because of possible litigation\”, said Hagan.

Sgt. Brian Morrell, a City Police Department spokesperson said, \”The Gloucester City Police are conducting an investigation into an allegation that funds are missing from the Gloucester City Volunteer Fire Association bank account\”.

Morrell added,\”No one has been arrested, or charged\”.

The email source also mentioned that funds were stolen once before from the Softball Marathon. The incident occurred about 20 years ago. The amount stolen then was approximately $10,000.

Update-The Firemen\’s audit is completed. And the monies missing are from the Softball Marathon account. The amount is $7200.

Governor Orders Flags To Fly At Half-Staff In Honor Of Corporal Saba

ALL AMERICAN PATRIOTS- February 14, 2007 — TRENTON – In honor of U.S. Marine Corporal Thomas E. Saba, New Jersey Governor Jon S. Corzine signed the following Executive Order calling for the United States and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Friday, February 16, 2007.

Paddy was driving down the street in a sweat because he had an important meeting and couldn\’t find a parking place. Looking up to heaven he said, \”Lord take pity on me. If you find me a parking place I will go to Mass every Sunday for the rest of me life and give up me Irish Whiskey!\”

Miraculously, a parking place appeared.

Paddy looked up again and said, \”Never mind, I found one.\”
