Today is January 28, and while the snow was removed from this area, the ice was not. The sidewalk was like an ice-skating rink.
This is not just the \”three corner park\”, it is also a school bus stop. Children need to walk on this sidewalk to reach their bus. Last week when it snowed, the handicapped ramp was a sheet of ice and my son fell trying to get on the bus.
I called the Public Works Department and was told it was the Board of Education’s responsibility, the B.O.E. says it is the Public Works, etc. I called the City Administrator and he said he is fairly new and doesn’t know whose responsibility it is.
I called the Mayor and sadly I am still waiting for him to call me back. I called Councilman Spencer and he said he would take care of it.
I am not sure whose responsibility it is but it certainly isn’t mine, yet twice I have salted this area. Once with my own salt and again today (with help of a few other parents) with the half bag of salt the Public Works insisted I take for salting the day my son fell.
Today we parents had to form a chain to help the children down the curb to get onto their bus. This is not fair to the children or the homeowners of this city who get a citation or fine for not clearing their sidewalks.
Please, someone, take responsibility for the safety of our children and clear this sidewalk during the inclement weather.
Sometimes their only alternative is to walk in the middle of the street and chance getting his by a car.
